Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The AC/DC EZ-Peak charger is designed for maximum simplicity and reliability. Just plug in a 6 to 8-cell pack, and the EZ-Peak begins charging at up to 4-amps—no setup or programming required. Patented peak-detecting software makes certain the battery receives a full charge for maximum performance and run time you can count on. A status LED flashes red to indicate charging is in progress, then turns green when charging is complete. The EZ-Peak is equally at home on the bench with AC power, or in the field with a DC power source. A Traxxas High-Current Connector is installed for use with Traxxas Power Cell battery packs and other NiCad and NiMH packs with Traxxas connectors (Adapter #3062 required for use with Molex connectors, sold separately). EZ-Peak is built for years of reliable charging and is covered by the Traxxas Lifetime Electronics Warranty. Experience Traxxas quality and support with the only charger engineered for Traxxas batteries and models.

8 hours charge time for the standard charger versus 1 hour for the EZ Peak?
It's a no-brainer.

Always make sure your batteries are cool before charging and your car's motor has cooled down before making another run.

The charger also comes with another charging line ending in alligator clips. Just wrap them in electical tape (or cut off the wires) to prevent shorting.
That line line is what appears to be the power cord in the photo here- the power cord is included, but not plugged in for shipping.

Plug the unit in, wait for the red light to appear, and then connect the battery- otherwise it won't charge. If you get a green light (meaning done charging) just retry the sequence. Once fully charged it drops power to contiously trickle charge, preventing over charging.

A solid unit that'll keep you racing :)

Our r/c and airsoft crazy 13 year old has been running and racing cars and trucks for about four years, and shooting high-end AEG airsoft rifles for about three. We have boxes full of parts, pieces and support gear all over the place!

The one piece of gear that gets used most often is this EZ-Peak NiMH charger made by Traxxas... it has easily saved us hundreds, probably even thousands, of hours over the years and it just keeps on going.

Our son's first higher end r/c car was a Traxxas Bandit XL5 and that was (and still is) a blast... but waiting for hours between recharges using the standard wall charger unit was not. Right away we realized that a charger upgrade would be a good thing, and we did a little research then purchased this great charger. BAM! A multiple hour job turned into 30 to 45 minute wait, and we purchased a few extra batteries too, in order to always have charged batteries on hand.

Most of our batteries are either hump-back style 6, 7 or 8 cells NiMH batteries ranging from 3300, 4200 or 5000 mAH... or stick-style 7 or 8 cell batteries from 1400 - 1600 mAH. Either way, this awesome charger just ramps the batteries back up to full charge so crazy fast - and the batteries have not been degraded at all either.

The process is very easy - turn the charger on, wait for the ready light, and then charge your battery. Once charged the light will turn green and you are good to go. What I really like about this charger, as compared to others, is that it has a maintenance feature that lowers the power to a trickle-charge once the battery is done -- this prevents killing your battery by accidentally overcharging it.

As another reviewer noted - only charge cool batteries to max battery life and charger life and to be safe.

When I first got this thing I don't know why exactly but it was really finicky. Sometimes it would charge sometimes it wouldn't. You have to make sure the lights are blinking red when you plug the battery in. Even then though sometimes it refuses to charge my son's battery, however it seems much better now than when I first got it.. It does charge his battery very fast though (maybe an hour or so compared to 6-8 hours with the original charger).
Anyways, it does work but sometimes it will think your battery is already charged when it is completely dead. You need to unplug the whole unit and plug it back in after waiting a few seconds, then make sure the lights are flashing red, and plug the battery in to the unit. Never plug the battery into the unit until after its connected to the outlet and blinking red. I think part of the original difficulty I had was I plugged the battery in first and it took awhile to reset the thing. Read the directions and it should work good for you.

I received this today and was very excited at the prospect of being able to charge my batteries in 45 minutes. Sadly the charger I got does not work. It thought the battery was full while it is dead so it put it into trickle charge mode. After unplugging the battery from the charger the charger then simply died. It won't even go into 'ready' mode. The light does not come on at all. I am very disappointed. I was thinking of buying another charger that can also do LiPos, I guess I will just bite the bullet and spend the ~$10 extra to get that one.

The battery charger that was included with the Traxxas car we bought was very slow and took about eight hours to reach a full charge. We needed a fast charger to reduce the amount of time the car remained out of service. This one works great. The lights tell you the status of the charge session, it automatically stops when the battery is fully charged and it has both an AC and DC option for power. Bottom line, it works as described.

Well like the title says, buy a better charger. I bought this charger for cheap to charge my 3000man batteries that I use in an E Maxx. This charger has only one function and that is to charge at 4Amps only. Now when charging batts, the best way to determine amperage is don't charge quicker than the battery's capacity. (IE:3,000mah batteries shouldn't be charged at more than 3.0 amps per hour and its better to charge at less than that for maximum battery life) Now I didn't know this when I got this charger. Instead of this I recommend a charger that allows the user to set the charge rate. This charger also doesn't do LiPO batteries which if you really get into RCs you will be moving up to LiPOs and have to get a new charger anyways. So just buy a multi-battery/amp-rate charger and put the 30 or so dollars into that instead. I recommend the DuraTrax Onyx chargers they are great(I have the Onyx-235 now)and you can easily find one to fit any charging needs you will likely ever have. They also have a 5 YEAR WARRANTY! Thanks for reading and hope this saves someone 30 or so bucks. Peace X_x
