So far it's worth the money. I previously bought the Kodak Sport and -as other reviews said- it just stopped working.
The picture quality is very good on it's middle setting (which gives you over 2hrs. of recording). I don't know how long the battery will last, but there was plenty of life left after 2hrs.
I like being able to connect directly to a TV or recorder with the AV cords or HDMI.

Cons:
Trying to use the included software to edit or copy to a DVD drives my computer up the wall.
The DVD copy won't play on a DVD player, so I use the AV cable.
There is no time/date stamp, although you go to the trouble of setting it.

Well, I understand some of the frustration this camera can cause. Mine does shoot in 1080p mode, it's just that it's not a standard 1080p. Instead of being 1080 x 1920 HD, it's 1080 x 1440 HD. Only my "FinalCut Pro" can use this footage without getting a vertical pillar on the left side. That being said, once I set the camera to 720p HD "Sports" mode, that's where this camera shines. It creates .MOV files I can import into iMovie easily. The camera is light, so I mounted it on an "Estes" rocket and launched it a couple hundred feet up. Well, there was a problem with the rocket, the parachute did not deploy and it crashed, but the camera kept videoing and saved the file. Very impressive. The impact would have destroyed most cameras, but this one not only was in one piece, it captured the crash on video in HD. Very cool video.
The camera has told me there is a problem with the SD card that I knew was fine, but ejecting the card and reseting it solved the problem. The display screen is kinda dark if using it outside in direct sunlight, but did I forget to mention the camera was $23? I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 because of the dim display and the weird 1080 format and SD card error message, but I plan on using this camera whenever I need video but don't want to risk my nicer cameras.

We bought this for my 9 year old son who needs a digi camcorder for his digital film editing class. We didn't want him to bring our full size camcorder to school for the danger that he might lose it. We bought this at a very good price. For $40, we got a lemon on the first shipment, but AMAZON took care of it and sent a replacement right away upgrading to next day shipping, and refunding our money back instantly without any wait. The product performed as expected. High definition movie without blur even if you move fast. Zooming in and out has no blur too. It takes very good video except that it can't zoom as far as you want. It's not for taking pictures though. It has no stabilizer for still images. Your hands have to be steady and gentle when pushing the capture button, or all else is blurry.

This camera is very cheap feeling and even cheaper in its operation. The thing just isn't useful for most situations. The firmware of the camera is bad and it often requires a shutdown/restart operation before it will start recording. You press the big red button, and nothing happens. You have to turn it off, then turn it back on, then you can record a video. But DON"T MOVE too much@!@ Any shaking of this camera can jostle the memory card. This causes the camera to immediately save your video or lose it all together. Finally, the cam often freezes up for no reason at all. When this happens you have to hold the power button down for 10 seconds before the camera will shut down.

Now, the video quality? Also horrible. I don't know how they get away with calling it "HD". I have several VERY cheap mini cameras (808 keychain cams) that cost me around $15. The video quality of this RCA is similar to those super-cheap cams.

So, save your money. If you need a really cheap cam, look into the "808 camera" or "mini-dv camera" styles. They have their limitations but they are more reliable than this RCA. I also have a Flip brand Mino-HD camera that is VERY nice, sturdy, well made, and reliable. That camera films in true quality High Definition. Good luck!

I purchased 8 of these for a company event, and 2 are defective (won't turn on). A good, very cheap camera, but you are rolling the dice on receiving a working version the first time around.

Recently bought this camera as an auxiliary for a multi camera shoot, it handles really well in low light is in 720HD, and records for well over 3 hours on battery. with an 8 Gigabyte SD card u can record well over 3 hours of hd video. Great for long conferences. The lens itself is pretty wide, so u can fit more of the action without having to be far away from it. Overall I like this product. Simple to use and comes with great accessories like, Charger, Battery, carrying pouch, and a hand strap.

Easy to use and good price. However you need to purchase a SD memory card before you can use it. It will not work w/o one. Recording is of good quality as well as sound.

I had an rca before and it did a great job. this one does very poorly in low light, and even in good light the images are fuzzy.

The video quality is horrible and shouldn't be labeled as "High Definition". If you want to invest in a camcorder, I suggest saving for a expensive one. Cheap camcorder is cheap, looks and feels cheap like other have said.
