I first loaded the driver and then the "basic" ArcSoft capturing software on my win7 machine.

When I later tried to visit the company's support forum (they sent me an email invitation shortly after I placed my order), I was forced to register first.

Image and audio capture worked very well as I attempted to capture the video from an old VHS tape.

After searching the net for a video capture device for my Windows 7 system, I found only 2 choices that claimed to actually work on windows 7. One was a fire-wire device for $200 and the other was the EZcap device. Since I only occasionally convert video, I went for the much cheaper solution. The product works but there is a problem with the sound USB driver included in the package. It did not work!. Found this on You Tube [...]. This shows how to install sound drivers and has link to working driver. Only other problem I saw while digitizing my videos is the sound would drop out momentarily while recording.

This product disproves the old saying about things that seem too good to be true. This little peanut shaped EZcap and the software that comes with it does the job of products costing hundreds more. It does everything it is advertised to do with a very small learning curve. It comes with a downloadable manual that explains and illustrates exactly how to do everything. I am in the process of downloading years of family video tapes from my VCR to my computer, editing them and making professional looking DVD's with all kinds of neat titles and special effedcts. I have used it on both Vista and Windows 7 computers. A little driver tweak was necessary to get it to work with Windows 7. Shipping took only a couple days and the supplier e-mailed me after I received it to see if I had any questions. At nearly 70 years of age, this little item may be the best value I have ever received for the money spent.

If your looking for a cheap way to record videos onto dvd, ipod, psp, or anything, this is a good choice to make. There are better alternatives, but come with a higher price. So if you want good quality recordings at an affordable price, this is the product you want. Comes with all but one item that you need to start recording, which is a male to male rca cable to hook up the ezcap to your tv/dvd/vcr/anything that has a female output on it. But luckily for consoles you can hook it straight up to the ezcap and start recording with the showbiz software it comes with.

This device is ideal for any analog video capturing. (VHS, 8mm...) Having gone through the easy setup and installation, I made my first atttempt to capture one of my VHS home movies. Fifteen minutes into the video capture, the recording stopped and displayed this message: "VIDEO IS COPYRIGHT PROTECTED.VIDEO CAPTURE WILL NOT RESUME". Don't sweat it. All you have to do is disable the protection pop-up. Here's the fix. And trust me, it works. Haven't had a single issue since this fix. Enjoy.
You have to edit a configuration file.

Navigate to:
C:\Program Files\ArcSoft\TotalMedia ShowBiz\com.ArcSoft.CaptureModule\

Open "CaptureModule.ini" with notepad. Add "ProtectOn=0" under "[CaptureModule]" and save.

If it does not let you save, it is because your pc user permissions need to be changed.
Right click on the file, select properties
select "security" at the top
click on "users" and click on the "edit" box
Put a click in all the boxes and click on "apply"

Now it will let you edit and save the file.

So far I have not been able to get sound
I can copy any segment of video ok from either the vcr player or the 8mm camcorder but without sound on playback
I tried several hookups

in Instructions FAQ's, word for word, "Question: If you have a mono camcorder, when you connect it up you may get no audio whatsoever"
but later on it sez it will work with either a stereo or mono camcorder but does not address the sound issue
Also you will need to buy (if you don't have already) Video and audio cables and/or S-Video to connect the usb capture with your analog video divice.

You need to buy the Scart video/audio adapter if the output of your video sorce is Scat type.
So this if by far not a complete package. load, plug and go.
So far I am not as happy with this as I thought I would be.

January 11
Contacted via E-Mail by customer service and ask about operating system etc. Once this was established and divice manager had the correct driver installed
all is great.
I have copied several videos from several formats and it works as advertised.
I'm sure I'll get a lot of use from it as I have tons of old VHS tapes and 8mm
Thanks again to Customer service, Scott and Amazon

Item worked really well, just a heads up, The Win 7 drivers were NOT on the install disc that came with the 116, didn't find that out until I was troubleshooting the no audio problem.
They are available on EZcap's website, installed those and it worked like a charm!!

Purchased this for a couple of reasons. First test was plugging a Sony Mini DV camcorder in it to capture video. Worked very well.
Not impressed with the bundled software so far. Works for basic capturing but if you plan on getting fancy with your videos even Windows Movie Maker works better for me. Was unable to get the title screens to work the way I wanted them too. Adding audio would probably be even worse.

Still going to test by seeing if I can capture XBOX 360 in-game video as well as attempting to capture security video off my H.264 DVR. Not a lot of hope that I can make the DVR thing happen but it should be interesting trying to make it work.

Hardware-wise I highly recommend it. As far as software goes, if you are good with Windows Movie Maker, Studio14 or other video software, you may want to stick with that and not worry about the ShowBiz DVD 2 or Blaze Video Magic software unless you want to make DVD's.
