Spreading Love one song at a time....,
By "shineeyegirl" (Hawaii) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Each One Teach One (Audio CD)
What can I say?...I'm stunned..This Groundation CD is just Beautiful!! Groundation demonstrates perfect harmony...each beat, each word...A truly gifted band, representing what reggae is all about..love. When you listen to this, that is the only thing your head hears. Soulful lyrics sung beautifully by Harrison Stafford, sweet sweet music played by all the groundation players, combined with a few almost jazz-like jammin, to make one great thing...This is the kind of reggae all music lovers can enjoy. In this time of hatred and war, we need to hear the positive encouragment of love and peace... Groundation brings this message with their music, and hopefully we can all learn from it..."People if I had only one more day, I'd live my life right, I would. I would find a way to love everyday, All people as I should."-Groundation

The debut recording album from groundation already takes reggae on another and much developed dimension, it's amazing how much inspiration can these guys have!
This album is enough to stoke anyone that's in reggae music and don't be surprised if all of a sudden groundation becomes your favorite band... For me, the whole record is an highlight by itself, so i can't really point which songs i like the most...and it's just the beginning for them! Welcome to the Nyabinghi Order

Man...I bought this CD at the beginning of the Summer justbecause it had Ras Michael playing on it...I'd never heard of these guys. But I haven't stopped playing it for 3 months now...just amazing conscious lyrics with serious rootsy beats and some of the most classic instrumental solos I ever heard. This one will be in my top 10 For-I-Va ! Best tracks (although they are all good!) - Waterfall, Weak

possibly the best reggae out right now,
By C. Rendeux (New Orleans, LA) - See all my reviews

This is one of the most organic reggae albums available today. Passionate but relaxed at all the right times, layers of emotion and deliverance that make this cd timeless. Smooth basslines, chill rhythm, and a musical interaction that will make this one of your favorite reggae albums ever.

Groundation to the Nation,

This album is a classic, Groundation blends an original roots style with a great message. See them live if you get the chance, although the cd captures the spirit pretty well. They have a very upbeat sound, and Harrison, the lead singer is blessed with an incredible voice. Backed up by great keyboarding, drums, horns, not to mention Marcia Higgs and Ras Michaels. This cd will definitely be on your most played list if you are a reggae fan. Their first album, Young Tree is also very good and well worth the price.

This is the last studio album of Groundation's that I have FINALLY purchased. Unbelievable. After listening to the album straight through 4 times already in the last 2 days I'd have to say it's my second favorite of theirs next to Hebron Gate - the "king" of reggae albums in my opinion.
I completely disagree with whoever said this cd is just a regurgitation of things already done, totally the opposite. Instrumentally they are thee best reggae band I've ever heard, hands down. A thick mix of roots reggae and jazz with swinging horn lines, organic guitar riffs, steady percussion with fresh pick-ups and fills, and a sweeping organ from the highest class. I don't feel I'm uneducated in this genre either -- I own every Marley album, most Tosh, all of John Brown's Body, Jimmy Cliff, Buju Banton, Israel Vibration, Midnite, Dennis Brown, Jacob Miller, Burning Spear, Steel Pulse, Matisyahu (who shouldn't even touch this class IMO) and have seen plenty of others live that I can't remember the names of. Whether or not you will like the singer is debatable, I feel fortunate that I love his unique gritty voice because it just adds to the moody canvas of grooves this band produces. I'm not recommending that you buy this album in the future, I'm TELLING YOU TO NOW!!! That is, of course, if you're a reggae fan. And like I said before, Hebron Gate and their newest album -- Upon The Bridge -- are A+ material too. All have their own personality and all are great.

Grounded with deep roots,
By Ben "Rudeside Radio" (Sydney, NSW Australia) - See all my reviews

This is a great album. Lyrically, musically, spiritually solid as a rock. The sound is huge and bassy, with some great layered arrangements. The horns come in at just the right times and don't blast over the top of everything. The jazzy elements keep things interesting with some great solos included (that keyboard player goes off). Highlights are the impassioned roots of "One More Day" and the blazing "We Na Forget". Despite slowing down towards the end, the tracks are still strong enough to carry the album through.
If you love roots reggae, with real soul, then this is for you. Reggae from the heart and soul of people who know it, love it and live it.

Not for me,
By Geeky Lion "Know before you speak" (California, USA) - See all my reviews

My first problem with this band is the singer. He just tries too hard. It's full of cliches and bringing in famous Reggae names to collaborate doesn't help. It might help catch people's attention but this is just re-heated stuff.
There's so much good Reggae out there that this just won't go far. Maybe if you're new to Reggae... Next! |
