5.0 out of 5 stars EAGER STAR...ANOTHER WINNER FOR WINNIE, May 24, 2002

This review is from: Eager Star (Winnie the Horse Gentler, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Winnie tries to adjust to her 7th grade year in a new school. She wonders why her sister Lizzie always finds it so easy to make friends, when she would rather talk to horses than people. Winnie thinks the only way she can fit in at school is to train a horse for Grant Baines, the most popular boy in school. But she only has one week in which to do this. Will she have enough time? Readers will find that once they start this book, they won't be able to set it down. And when they do finish EAGER STAR, they'll know they need to read the whole series!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding series, November 5, 2011

We found the Winnie series on Amazon and absolutely love it. The books are heartwarming with great character development. My daughter - 13 - is an avid horse lover and the author clearly has her horse facts right on. We recommend starting with the first book in the series - Wild Thing - but this isn't absolutely necessary.

This review is from: Eager Star (Winnie the Horse Gentler, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is book two in the "Winnie the Horse Gentler" series. It is aimed at girls ages 8-12 and about a junior high girl who can make impossible horses into good ones. Her mother has died, and she learned how to do this from her mother.

In this book, it's the start of the school year and her classmate, Grant, is to be riding in a barrell race. However, his horse "Eager Star" doesn't want to cooperate. She even bucks Grant off of her at one point in the book. Winnie's job is to make this horse that is frightened and nervous into a winner in one week.

Also during the course of the book Winnie gets off on the wrong foot with her English teacher, and wouldn't you know it, but she turns in the WRONG journal this woman, which doesn't make things any better for Winnie.

She also plans a slumber party, inviting the most popular girls in school. That doesn't go quite as expected for her.

This was an enjoyable book even though I'm not the target age range. It is a quick read, and one that girls who love horses would be especially fond of. I am looking forward to reading the rest of this series.

I am buying this series for my granddaughters after reading them all myself on Kindle. It is good to find books which are so good and so relevant to this age group and are not about witches, wizards, monsters and vampires.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book!, July 23, 2011
This review is from: Eager Star (Winnie the Horse Gentler, Book 2) (Mass Market Paperback)
Another good book in the series. I enjoyed how the main character, Winnie, compares her new middle school classmates and teachers to different kinds of horses. This book had a great theme on how you can't impress God and that you don't need to impress others. I hope my daughter reads this book one day if she loves horses.
