This review is from: EAGLE & SWORD (Paperback)
Kohn's book "Eagle and Sword" is essential reading for anyone who is interested in the circumstances which led to the military structure of the United States was first founded. The book also addresses the highly-charged political scene of the post-Revolutionary period, the weakness of the government established by the Articles of Confederation and how the Founding Fathers dealt with the controversial issue of "a standing military" after just having fought a War with England, in large part, over the same issue.
This book is well written, has a compelling argument and sheds light on a period in history that is often forgotten about. A must-read for anyone interested in military history, political history as well as Constitutional history.

A must-have to understand the origins of the American military. Kohn explores in detail how the Federalists pushed the creation of a large military establishment, where they succeeded and where they failed.
