I bought this for my fiance and he only used it 4 times before it snapped in half. It snapped in half catching a blue gill. So its not like he was catching the greatest catch of the day. I do think that it is a junk pole.

I Have the Described eagle claw combo, but if u order this one you will receive a child size, similar, generic replacement. Please see my added pictures and notes before you are disappointed. Eagle Claw makes the best Telescopic rods, just not this one. Sadly i had to return this one. this item was Not as described :(

My brother bought this to go fishing with when I was going to take him and his son's fishing. After about 30 min of fishing it broke in half. My 13 year old nephew was using it. He was casting, the lure caught on a railing and it snapped. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.

Bought 3 of these for my young children because they are advertised as 4'6" long. When arrived are actually 5'6" long which is hard for a 6 year old to use and learn to cast along a stream with brush and trees. Feel like poles made out of cardboard tubes but for the price I should have known...

It is no real fishing pole but works well enough for backpacking, the reel is a bit crappy but just took the reel off my normal pole and it works just as good.

For anyone who wants a telescopic rod that's easy to carry in a bag, I would suggest buying the Pack-It spinning rod on its own (also available on Amazon) and fitting it with a quality reel like the Daiwa Sweepfire.

The rod is good. It collapses to a very manageable size. Its fiberglass construction is sturdy enough for its rated line weight of up to 10 pounds, and I may end up taking bass with it at some point. Its grip is rather short, but this is necessitated by its purpose as something that will fit in a small bag.

The reel however, is pretty bad. The fact that it adds only $5 to the cost of the combo should tell you something. I'm especially annoyed by its drag, which doesn't click the way the drag on any quality reel does, so I've found that it doesn't maintain the drag you set very well at all. The movement of the action is pretty rough, too, though I would be willing to forgive that if the drag didn't give me such a headache.

The line is awful, too. It had severe memory and birdnested sooninto its first trip. I ended up cutting off much of the line during that trip with the intention of replacing it later. Decent monofilament line is cheap, and this will be the last time I ever use the line pre-spooled onto a reel.

In summary, don't bother with the combo. Just get the rod and add a better reel.

Purchased this for my husband & he loves it. It's a well constructed pole, smooth casting, ideal travel size, he caught 3 small snapper the 1st time using it & no problems getting them in. I'm now not aloud to touch his new pole, it's fits in our Harley saddle bag easily. I highly recommend this travel pole for the price.
