First off, this rod is amazing. the reel that comes with it is a complete piece of sh**, so I would recommend buying the rod separate. The rod says use up to 6lb line on it, but the best to use is 8lb. It is a great rod for catching just about anything under 20lbs. I recently caught a 8.5lb pink salmon with it, and it handles great. I can cast GREAT with it. This is a must-have for anyone fishing trout or most varieties of rock fish. Just one flick of your wrist and it will cast 70+ feet. I like to cast side-arm with this rod. I hold it in one hand for an easily sufficient cast. MUST BUY THIS ROD. tip: while catching a larger fish, tuck this butt of the handle to the inside of your elbow instead of under your armpit or something like that.
