Good quality and nice idea and also comfortable to wear as a backpack, but better used as a rolling luggage because it is just too large for backpacking. I could see this bag being too large to fit in hostel lockers or under beds, and difficult to put in luggage storage on trains so I had to send mine back. It would also be too easy to overpack and go overweight, could easily put over 100 pounds in it. The 22 inch is small though, Eagle creek would benefit from making a bag that holds a volume somewhere between the 22 inch and 28 inch size.

    WHAT I LIKE ABOUT IT
    * Love the color. I bought the yellow one which is really easy to spot in the piles of everyone else's black luggage.

    * Love the configuration/design. Eagle Creek makes sensible choices about long-wearing vs. lightweight materials and positions the appropriately tough materials where wear will happen, and puts lighter materials where wear is less likely. Seems like a small thing, but this reduces the weight. Their products are so often up to a half pound or more lighter than comparable items from other manufacturers. Nice.

    * Extremely good quality. I have bought a lot of Eagle Creek products over the years and they wear like iron.

    WHAT BUGS ME ABOUT IT
    * BIG LOGO. Why oh WHY do they have to plaster their big logo so huge on their bags? I wish it was not silkscreened on so I could remove it, which is what I usually do with my bags. Not a fan of being a walking ad. Oh well.

    * Not really a backpack, but nice try. I agree with the other reviewers that this bag is too large to make using the backpack conversion at all practical. But, when I travel with this bag I am seeking packing capacity over ultimate mobility.Once you get past the 9x11x22 carryon size, you're checking the bag anyway, why pretend it's anything but a big hauler? The backpacking straps and hipbelt are entirely removable, so I did that.

Versatile bag for every adventure, love the laundry pocket and small pocket for quick access to documents etc! Love the color! Zippers make it easy to lock up the bag, wheels are heavy duty! Now for the 6 weeks in Thailand to see if it all holds up :)

While I applaud Eagle Creek for their efforts in making a bag that serves as both a sizable wheeled duffel and backpack, I think that as a backpack it's just too big. Went down to my local REI and tried this on for size today, in an effort to be able to haul enough stuff for a one month trip to Bangladesh while also hoping that it might work as a backpack for 4 nights trekking in the hill tribe regions. This bag is very well-constructed, but when I put it on my back it felt like strapping a giant Samsonite suitcase on and the thought of trekking for four days with this monster on my back just seemed a bit too much both in terms of size and how it might look to third world tribal people living well below the poverty threshold. Sometimes bigger isn't better and sometimes trying to do too many things makes for compromise whereby in this case, you either have a backpack that's too big, or a duffel that's too pricey. I gave it four stars mainly because it's a solid, well made bag and I appreciate Eagle Creek's efforts to reach out and make different bags for different people. They also make a 22" version of this bag, but that one is roughly the size of a 38 liter backpack and that might be too small for some. In their other lines, they make a 25" rolling duffel/backpack. I didn't get to try that one, but it seems like it might be the perfect compromise.

I own the slightly older version of this bag, and have for 4 years of very regular travel for work and pleasure. I was inspired to write after my last trip (about 4 weeks on the road) that really reminded me just how much I love the bag (which used to come with another backpack which attached outside of it).

While it gets about 80% of it's use as a roller, and is a bit too big for extended backpacking, man having those backpack straps for area's without smooth roads (climbing stairs to a walk up room, going over rough roads in the third world that are often covered in dirt, etc.) is just very convenient.

Ok. I love Eagle Creek. I have three of their pieces and thought I'd finish my set out with a backpack. This backpack is perfect.... if you are 8'2". IT IS HUGE. If you are going hiking for 400 days to the Himalayas through the Sierra Nevadas, You will LOVE this piece. However, you could probably just as easily bungee your own giant piece of luggage to your back. I know, I know, the dimensions are given. But you just don't get it until you see it. Huge!
