3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great, September 7, 2010

I bought this bag to carry my laptop through airport security using the Flyby or Checkpoint Friendly feature. That part works, but I would change nearly every other feature of the bag!

First, my old Dell Inspiron E1505 15.6" laptop fit the sleeve perfectly; I think the bag was made for that laptop. However, my new Dell 1558 15.6" laptop does not really fit. There are two problems. First, this laptop is about 1/4 inch wider than my old one and that makes all the different. It will fit in the sleeve, but not easily and I have to stretch the elastic about as far as it will go. Since the USB ports on the new laptop are on the side (they were on the back of the old laptop), I have to remove them so they don't snag on the side of the sleeve (which is really tight). Second, the battery on this laptop protrudes down across the back of the laptop (near the hinge), adding about 3/4 of an inch to the overall thickness of the laptop. Again, the laptop fits, but I have to stretch the sleeve about as much as possible. So, my new laptop fits, but I have to force it, and I'm not really happy about that.

The back has lots of features, but most are not as usable as I would like. Here are a few to give you the idea: (1) The laptop sleeve is very well done, but it is not quite wide enough for an ordinary 15.6" laptop -- I think it must have been designed before the new wide-screen models came out. (2) It has a zippered outside pocket, but it is too large! It is basically the full size of the bag, making it difficult to find smaller items, such as boarding passes, work badges, etc. (3) It has a key chain holder inside, but it requires you to attach their little device to your key chain. All the other bags I've seen just use a small carabiner clip, which is much easier to use. I've just put my own carabiner clip on their key chain holder, but their holder is on a 4-inch strap and with my clip is over 6 inches long, plus my key chain and keys. (4) the zippers go all the way around the side, but you cannot access the non-laptop compartment from the top when using the bag as a backpack because there is flap there to keep your stuff from falling out. (5) The backpack straps work, but the sliders to adjust their length do not hold their position. I had to tie the ends of the straps to stop them from slipping. Plus they ends are way too long, hanging down about 2 ft when adjusted to fit my back. (6) I found the shoulder strap to be uncomfortable. I don't know what they did, but it is the worst laptop bag strap I have used since I started carrying one in 1993. I just use it as a backpack, leaving the shoulder strap at home, and find that to be much more comfortable.

The green or palm color is much nicer than the photos I found on the web -- those photos showed it either way brighter or way duller than its actual color.

The bag is very well constructed. After 3 months of constant use it does not show any wear, not even the smallest scuff mark. I wish it would wear out, so I could justify shopping for a bag with fewer annoyances, but it looks like it will last forever...

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't fit my 15.6" laptop, May 25, 2010

While it looks like a decent bag, the claim that it fits a 17" laptop is not accurate. The width of the built-in laptop sleeve is maybe a bit over 14". My laptop (which has a 15.6" screen) is 14.5" across. I'm not sure who's 17" laptop will fit, but measure your laptop before you buy. (And if you are wondering, the sleeve is 10.25" tall and about 1.5" in depth.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Briefcase/Computer Bag, December 13, 2010

I'm always looking for the "perfect" business/computer bag--and I think I found it. Roomy, yet trim...nicely padded computer compartment...and best of all, multiple ways to carry it. Handles, shoulder straps and pack straps that stash away very nicely.

Like most bags, it never seems like there are enough pockets, but this one is certainly adequate.
