5.0 out of 5 stars Good cable
This is a good cable to help avoid casual theft. It's lightweight and someone would have to use wire cutters to get through the cable or the lock. This is best described as an insurance policy to keep honest people honest, and to give a thief pause. Inside of airport security, I only really use it to secure our carryon bags with cameras, ipods, etc. and my wife's...

2.0 out of 5 stars The lock is crap
The lock itself is pretty crappy. The dials are fiddly and even though you moved the number to the point there is often no click once you're there.

Following the instructions on how to set it did not work the first time and I had to struggle for 5 minutes to get it into normal position. The number I configured was not set but remained at default 000. I tried...

This is a good cable to help avoid casual theft. It's lightweight and someone would have to use wire cutters to get through the cable or the lock. This is best described as an insurance policy to keep honest people honest, and to give a thief pause. Inside of airport security, I only really use it to secure our carryon bags with cameras, ipods, etc. and my wife's purse. Those are small and concealable. We don't feel the need to lock down the rollaboard. I regurlarly use it on everyhting when in bus or train terminals. When travelling for business, I do use it to lock down my laptop bag pretty much everywhere. For what it is and how I use it - 5 stars. Hope this is helpful. R

2.0 out of 5 stars The lock is crap, March 1, 2011
The lock itself is pretty crappy. The dials are fiddly and even though you moved the number to the point there is often no click once you're there.

Following the instructions on how to set it did not work the first time and I had to struggle for 5 minutes to get it into normal position. The number I configured was not set but remained at default 000. I tried again, set it to a number, struggled to set it into normal position and it was not on default number anymore. But of course it was not configured to the number I set and now it's permanently locked and useless.

At least I have a cable now that I can use with a proper lock.

I bout this cable and lock so that I can lock my leather jacket to my motor bike. It is small and light. I love it. It fits my needs perfectly.

After reading many bad reviews regarding the poor quality of master locks of this size, I happened on this Eagle Creek lock and cable. I used the lock for a dual purpose. I used the inside cable to lock in a gun safe and the outside loop and actual lock through the two zippers on the outside of the suitcase. (The suitcase also has a TSA lock thus giving double protection to frustrate any dishonest baggage handler).

If you don't have outside locks this item will work to secure your belongings on any zippered to close suitcase. No worries about the TSA breaking it either. TSA has opened and inspected my luggage twice and replaced it in the locked position

I am completely satisfied on how this item performed and the quality of the product.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for travel, January 15, 2012

We used this lock and cable on our trip to Asia. Part of travel is to be smart about how you keep you and your stuff safe and secure. We always lock our bags and when we were out of our room for the day we would use the cable to lock our bags together. When we were able we would also use the cable to lock our bags to the furniture. Every backpacker and traveler should take a lock and cable with them. If someone is really determined to steal your stuff they will find a way but this is a deterrent and makes it a lot harder and at the very least will slow them down. The cable and lock is great when you are on a bus or train. We used it on a train to attach our bags to the luggage rack. It worked perfectly and we had peace of mind that our bags would not be snatched when we were off the train.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice cable, March 3, 2011

I bought this cause I wanted a cable, I already had locks. Which is good cause the lock is kind of big and does not feel very good, but it worked fine. The plastic coated steel cable is thin and flexible. hmm... I like it... not much else to say about a cable....

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of crap, January 19, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this to secure my backpack while I'm traveling through Central America. It's the biggest piece of worthless crap I've ever purchased. As soon as I opened it the lock broke. I'm a female and not rough with anything but this lock doesn't work. I'd be better off buying a bike lock from Walmart.

The locks work fine so far. I was able to easily and successfully set a new combination following the package instructions. One of the locks offers more resistance when I turn the number dials - they feel a little jerky/sticky, so I'm hoping this will improve as I use it more. The other is smoother and more like the other Eagle Creek locks I've used in the past. The cables feel almost thin enough to cut with a solid pair of scissors, but they're pretty much what I expected. I want them more as a lightweight deterrent for a backpacking trip (to make my bag less appealing than other that might not be secured at all) rather than an absolute safeguard against getting my bag stolen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Little Lock & Cable, July 22, 2011
I travel by myself and stay in hostels so this little lock and cable are great for hostels, train travel and other situations where you might need to leave your stuff unattended. I had no problems setting up my combination or opening the lock and love the cable as it allowed me to secure my belongings so I could use the restroom or sleep on a long train ride without the fear that someone might just walk off with my suitcase!

4.0 out of 5 stars Smaller than expected, October 11, 2011

This product was much smaller than I expected. The cable is very thin and short but still seems strong. The lock is good and easy to set. I'm not sure it will work for what I need it for but at least I got a good lock.
