This review is from: Eagle Creek Travel Gear X-Large ES Cargo Duffle (Apparel)
This duffle, new, was used once on an air trip. It was torn on the seam and the bottom was scuffed and worn through. This bag was bought to replace another Eagle Creek XLarge, purchased at REI, where the same problem happened: Brand new, used once on a flight and torn on the bottom. This is not a good choice to use as luggage for a flight. I had a North Face duffle, used for over twenty years, that finally just wore out. I will buy another NF if they still make them.

I have been an Eagle Creek customer for years now and have always found their gear to be well made and very durable. I have used one Eagle Creek duffle bag for nearly 20 years now, hauling gear all over Alaska, New England and internationally. Recently, I needed a large number of duffle bags to haul extra gear to my duty station in Eastern Europe. I ordered 6 of these Eagle Creek X-Large Duffle bags for that purpose. I can only say that I was very impressed with the quality of these bags, their durablility and practicality. After traveling fully loaded through 4 airports, the duffles landed in Chisinau, Moldova without any visible wear and no problems. I plan to buy more for the next move and would recommend these bags to anyone. They are roomy, simple, well-designed and very durable.

Eagle Creek makes very good products. What can you say about a duffel bag? Well, this one does the job. It has a lot of room, is very sturdy and put together well. The zipper is very strong, as is the fabric used for the bag. And most importantly, it comes with a lifetime guarantee, so it's hard to go wrong if you choose this bag.

I make several trips a year between the US and Europe bringing all sorts of stuff with me from the US. In the past few years I've been carrying back even more stuff and have been buying more suitcases which take up too much space. I've had an X-Large Eddie Bauer duffle bag that has made countless overseas trips. In all these travels the only significant damage occurred a couple of years ago...a small tear which I promptly repaired with some duct tape. Unfortunately Eddie Bauer no longer makes these large duffle bags. They have larger bags but with wheels and inner supports which make them heavier and bulky.
Knowing the Eagle Creek brand and having a smaller Eagle Creek bag I decided to try the X-Large ES Cargo Duffle. The material seems relatively durable. I don't recall the original Eddie Bauer specs but the Eagle Creek's material seems comparable, perhaps a little lighter. One thing important thing to me in duffles and soft suitcases is the zipper. I've had weaker bags whose zippers have failed. Thankfully this never happened en route. I'd hate to be one of these people who has his/her stuff falling out on the baggage claim conveyor belt! It's also a problem when the Zipper tag breaks off. At least most bags have two so you can usually open/close from the other side. The Eagle Creek's zipper system seems tough enough. The Eagle Creek passed it first test as it survived its first trip from US to Europe. It was filled to capacity with an assortment of boxes and padded inside with clothes. Only time will tell whether or not it will be as long-lasting as my Eddie Bauer. I'll update this review after a few more trips. I also bought a Mountainsmith Travel Trunk Recycled-Fabric Duffle which I'll also be reviewing.

This bag is sturdy and big. It fits a lot inside, and I was able to carry it like a backpack with the handles on my shoulders once while going to the airport. It has already made 4 trips between New York and East Africa and looks as good as new!

Bought this for my daughter who lives overseas and she was very pleased. It's pricey, but it folds up small and lightweight and it has a strong zipper for what I hope will be a long life of use. It holds a lot!!
