Joanne Shenandoah does it again! I first heard her live at a powwow in Florida 10 years ago and bought all her cds available at the time. Now I never miss one.....and this one may very well be the best. Exquisite voice, exquisitely moving music. Try Loving Ways next - my favorite song of all times is her To Those Who Dream on Loving Ways.

5.0 out of 5 stars THIS CD DESERVES A GRAMMY, February 24, 2002

JOANNE'S LATEST IS BY FAR HER BEST. IT ENCOMPASSES HER TRADITIONAL HAUDENSAUNEE ROOTS WITH A CONTEMPORARY FLAIR. I ESPECIALLY LOVE "FEATHER FROM HEAVEN", "ONCE AGAIN" AND "DANCING ON MOTHER EARTH". THE BACKGROUND VOCALS PROVIDED BY HER DAUGHTER, LEAH AND SISTER, DIANE ARE STELLAR. THIS CD IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANY JOANNE SHENANDOAH FAN, OR FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO OWN A TRULY MAGNIFICENT PIECE OF MUSIC. HOPEFULLY, THIS ONE WILL BE NOMINATED FOR A GRAMMY AND SHE WILL WIN. SHE DESERVES IT!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it, January 18, 2003

This CD is just fantastic. I own a number of Native American CD's and this quickly became one of my favorites. Her voice is wonderful, her songs have meaning and musicianship, and it all melds together seamlessly.

If I haven't already given this CD for my family's and friend's birthdays, it will be under their Christmas trees! This is the richest of Joanne's albums. I listen again and again, gleaning new meanings, hearing soulful refrains, and find myself leaning into the melodies, writing down the words, savoring each line. Eagle Cries is thought provoking, touching, healing, inspiring. Truly lovely!

5.0 out of 5 stars Crossover hit?, November 4, 2001
This review is from: Eagle Cries (Audio CD)
Joanne Shenandoah may be the most talented singer/songwriter working today. Her voice has the power to transport and calm. In Eagle Cries, she adds a new intensity and energy to her music, one that should appeal to a broad audience. This is a wonderfully uplifting and timely album that almost seems to have anticipated and responded in advance to the horrors of 9-11. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars And I Thought It Couldn't Get Any Better, October 26, 2001

Joanne Shenandoah has long been one of musics best kept secrets, but with the long awaited release of Eagle Cries, the secret has to come out! She has one of the purest voices to challenge our senses, a talent for putting to music the words that touch our souls, and with Eagle Cries she has begun to find the depths of her abilities. Eagle Cries has many songs on the CD that I can't get out of my head, yet the words and meaning behind the title song go beyond the melody and should touch us all at our very core. Well done Joanne!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awe-inspiring!, May 20, 2005
This review is from: Eagle Cries (Audio CD)
A thoughtfully compiled assortment of beautifully inspiring songs. Joanne's warm voice, accompanied by mystical musical elements and strong societal messages will take you back to your roots, whether native or non-native.

My personal favorite is 'One Silver One Gold'...
"They left a trail of destruction,
cut through the mountains, rivers and streams.
They scarred the earth as they devoured
our children and ancient dreams."

Wonderful!

Joanne: I'd love to use this quote in my upcoming novel, The River. Please email me at (...)

5.0 out of 5 stars Eagle Cries is a must have in 2001, October 26, 2001

Joanne Shenandoah's new CD Eagle Cries is the real thing. This authentic artist reaches deep from within to create a variety of new songs that showcase her songwriting talents. Shenandoah's voice sounds better and better with each new recording, and this CD has some of her best work to date. This is the type of disc that most listeners will find themselves listening to over and over again. The message of peace is a theme that has been a common thread in Shenandoah's work, and the whole world would benefit from listening to the 12 tracks on Eagle Cries.
This may be one of the most significant artistic statements of 2001.

5.0 out of 5 stars She sings like a dove, August 29, 2007
This review is from: Eagle Cries (Audio CD)
I love this album. It sings of tradition, of course, because that is what Joanne is all about. Her voice is like the voice of the angels, telling stories that have come down through the generations, with such soulful, delightful sounds. I love One Silver One Gold, As the Eagle Cries, Watch me through the night. Not to be missed, if you love Joannes works, you will add this to your favorites. Thank you, Joanne.
