5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT HEAVY METAL ALBUM !, January 11, 2000
This live album has the following tracks, not necessarily on this order: Motorcycle man; 747 (strangers in the night); princess of the night; strong arm of the law; heavy metal thunder; 20,000 FT; never surrender; wheels of steel; fire in the sky; machine gun. In my pessoal opinion, the high points of this album are the track "motorcycle man" (with a compass more acelerated than the normal), the energetic performance of the track "heavy metal thunder", and the tracks "never surrender" (with a powerful and precise introduction by the guitarrist Graham Oliver) and "wheels of steel" (with an amazing guitar solo by Graham Oliver, one of the best guitar solos that I heard !). The guitar solo by Paul Quinn on the track "strong arm of the law" is great too ! The other tracks are very good too, with the exception of "machine gun", which was played with high energy, but in my opinion the guitarrists extrapolated in the guitar effects on this song, resulting in a confused performance of this track. But this is a great heavy metal album, showing a piece of what was the NWOBHM in the early 80's. This live recording is obrigatory to every Saxon fan !

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Live Album Ever, April 18, 2002
By
This review is from: Eagle Has Landed (Audio CD)
With all due respect to KISS ``ALIVE!``, Maiden`s ``Live After Death``, Priests ``Uleashed In the East`` and AC/DC`s ``If You Want Blood...``, SAXON`s ``The Eagle Has Landed`` is the best live metal album released during the mid-70`s to late 80`s timeframe. Every track is full of pure energy and Biff Byford`s voice is in perfect form. SAXON are a terrific group of performers and their songwriting is vastly under-rated. How they never caught on in the States amazes me, as they are far more talented than acts that did like The Scorpions and Def Leopard. You can`t go wrong with any SAXON album, but this is the best introduction to a great ``NWOHMB.``

5.0 out of 5 stars Heavy Metal Thunder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, July 22, 2005
This review is from: Eagle Has Landed (Audio CD)
This is pure hard rock at it's best. If you never heard
Saxon or 80's british metal start here. This is like a
greatest hits live album. I bought this after seeing
them in concert and I was blown away. I only have
2 other albums by them but this is by far the best...
Every song just kicks *** and I highly recommend it!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best live metal albums EVER!, January 10, 2011
This review is from: Eagle Has Landed (Audio CD)
If you are new to this great classic metal band or you know them well but do not have this CD in your collection, you MUST get it!
By far one of my fave live metal albums; I'd even stack this up along side Judas Priest-Unleashed in the East and that is no small feat! The sound & production of this cd is excellent and the set-list is superb as well. The highlight (for me) is absolutely the last two tracks though; Fire in the Sky/Machine gun to outro is nothing short of blazingly EPIC! The roots of thrash metal (pre-Metallica) is evident on the last two tracks. I bought the vinyl long ago and this will be my second cd copy of this amazing Saxon concert as well; Yes, it IS that kick-A**!!! Buy it now before it goes out of print, [which it may be already!] and the price goes up again, I can assure any fan of heavy metal THIS album IS a must have!

4.0 out of 5 stars If you like compilations...., July 10, 2004
This review is from: Eagle Has Landed (Audio CD)
Weel, this surely is one hell of a great live album. If you want itnroduce yourself to Saxon, it's a good start.

The set list (ten songs) DOES NOT contain all their best material up to that point, when they had recorded four albums (but they did not use here any song from their debut album). Also this album is the debut of drummer Nigel Glockler, a very resourceful addiction to the band, replacing Pete Gill.

It has tons of energy (altough "Wheels of Steel" gets a bit boring....). Good acquisiton, if you like compilations.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have For Any Serious Heavy Metal Fan!, March 9, 2004
This review is from: Eagle Has Landed (Audio CD)
SAXON are the unsung heroes of the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM). They came out around the same time as IRON MAIDEN and DEF LEPPARD, but had only a fraction of those bands' success. "The Eagle Has Landed" represents SAXON as an unstoppable Heavy Metal band. What they lacked in catchy commercial hooks, they more than compensated in the heaviness and aggression departments. This is indeed a very intense album with a sound lacking in most "live" albums now-a-days. This has to be simply one of the best live metal albums of all time, along with PRIEST's "Unleashed In The East" and MOTORHEAD's "No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith". It's fast, loud and uncompromisingly brutal. From the opening song, "Motorcycle Man" to the all out Thrash-before-Thrash of "Fire in The Sky/Machine Gun", this album will kick you square in the butt. An essential purchase for ANY fan of Vintage Heavy Metal!

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have - full stop, November 8, 2003
This review is from: Eagle Has Landed (Audio CD)
Saxon at their very best in their early days. Sure their recent stuff is excellent, but this is their live album having their best classics, before they actually became classics. Best songs from Saxon, Wheels of Steel, Heavy Metal Thunder and the (less good) Denim & Leather all captured Live. I you think you like rock --> then this is a MUST have.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Must Have, November 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Eagle Has Landed (Audio CD)
This CD is a must have for any Metal collection. Though the original album release has a better version of Princess Of The Night, the version on this CD does not disapoint. This CD has a great compulation of their songs to that point in time.

This album is great (...)! This is in my top ten albums of all-time. I love live albums, especially this one. I saw Saxon in 83 (opening for Maiden) when they were promoting "The Power & The Glory." This was actually my first concert ever; man, what a treat!! I had never heard any of their music before, but I started buying any and all that I could find. "Motorcycle Man" is so good; so is "Princess of the Night" and "Wheels of Steel." If you claim to be a metalhead, you gotta have this one!
