5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
I don't normally write reviews for the free music I get on Amazon but this album is one of the best free downloads I've come across. All the music is incredible. I especially like the cover of Smells Like Teen Spirit. Its worth downloading the entire album.

3.0 out of 5 stars should of liked it more ,,,but just don't
sounded great on paper but , after a listen , nothing that great .. I have to disagree with the person that say tori amos's take on Nirvana was great .. greatly boring and whiny in my book. ."It's tricky is the track that is fun, James Brown is sweet and the instrumental tracks are nice but .. just not up to what I thought it could be

Including the 40th anniversary version of Deep Purple's "Smoke On the Water (live)" shows quite a sense of humor. But 1:54 of Marvin Gaye's "Mercy, Mercy Me"? Stopping right in the middle of the song? What's Going On?
(I see from the catalog that this is the expected run time; the Amazon distribution is not singled out for this treatment.)

I kept looking for the catch, but there isn't one! Great concert, great songs, great bands and it's free - what else could you ask for?

No one can complain about the price, with this sampler collection currently offered at no charge, but don't let the price tag fool you into thinking there's no value here as there most certainly is.

My only real complaint is that I really wish that the tunes were tagged to identify when they were originally recorded so that downloaders could understand the historical significance of the recordings. James Brown (the Godfather of Soul) passed on in 2006. I assume that the recording of Papa's Got a Brand New Bag is from 1981, but without more information here, it's impossible to know for sure (at least it's impossible if you aren't a savant when it comes to musical matters).

The same question comes up for Marvin Gaye's Mercy Mercy Me, which, as others note, is cut short here ending mysteriously at the 1:54 mark (as advertised) which is certainly not the end of the song in most normal instances. I'm guessing that recording dates back to 1980?

Run DMC's cut would seem to be from 2001.

That's just 3 examples of artists involved in this sampler who are no longer with us, or groups that have lost members along the way. Regardless, the recordings are excellent and make great additions to just about anyone's library, though downloaders should note that the Wu-Tang Clan's contribution is, as noted, explicit. If you're bothered by such things then move along, otherwise download away and enjoy the bargain while you can.
