Amiable Jack despises some of the violent chores he must undertake in the fight against the forces of darkness, but he soldiers on bravely. Devereux's quirky blend of horror and deadpan humor bristles with pop culture references, giving Tarantino-style profanity and gore a twist of Robert Rankin tomfoolery and Ian Fleming derring-do.
