5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, Easy to use
After some research, bought this item. Was looking for a easy to use small enclosure, inexpensive,no fan for portability and USB powered use. Item met all my needs. Have two SATA hard drives, and very easy to switch. Will most l ikely buy another enclosure.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bare bones case unfortunately did not work for me
I purchased this case, and I put a brand new drive that works in other cases into the enclosure and it did not work. The drive tried to power up, but only made clicking sounds. I put both usb cables into the computer, so it wasn't a power issue.

4.0 out of 5 stars Recommend for one hard drive, but not constant switching, June 25, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eagle Tech ET-CS2MSU2-BK 2.5-Inch SATA to USB Portable HDD Enclosure (Mesh) (Personal Computers)
Length:: 3:04 Mins

PROS
- Good heat dissipation -- A primary concern on external HD enclosure
- Works on PC and Mac
- Will work with only one USB connected (if necessary)
- Small, stylish

CONS
- Extremely small screws which are easy to lose and likely require screwdriver purchase
- Has not worked through powered USB hub

Stylish and it works. I recommend without reservation for anyone who is going to stick an old hard drive in it and then use it as a portable hard drive (like a WD Passport). However, due to the tiny screws and the extra effort they involve, I do not recommend to someone who will regularly be switching hard drives in and out of it.

Great little enclosure. Perfect for those 80-100 GB drives you don't know what to do with.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product !, November 30, 2009

This review is from: Eagle Tech ET-CS2MSU2-BK 2.5-Inch SATA to USB Portable HDD Enclosure (Mesh) (Personal Computers)
This product is great. It serves its purpose well as an external drive for my desktop. I almost never remove it though so I cannot say how durable it is, however, if you are looking for an enclosure that you plan on transporting I would suggest either investing in a durable hard case or a different enclosure. This does not look like it would stand up to much abuse. Also, I would suggest, as others have, in investing in a set of miniature screwdrivers for the assembly of this product. Other than these minor concerns, I have had no problems with this product, with the proper tools (mini Philips-head screwdriver) installation is a snap and the product does a great job of keeping my drive cool so heat is never a concern. I plan on buying at least one more of these in the near future.

5.0 out of 5 stars That was Easy, November 24, 2009

Need a place to keep that original 40-60-80 gig PS3 drive you recently updated? This case will do nicely. Well ventilated metal mesh design, blue power light, red activity light, sturdy USB mini to dual USB cord (for older underpowered USB outlets.) Simple to assemble, although you will need a small Phillips head screwdriver. Could be improved with small rubber feet to keep from sliding away, but for the price, recommended.

Regarding the case, as you can imagine it is a bare bones case. The connector for the hard drive is attached to the top of the case. Pay a little more money and you will get an enclosure with a tray that you screw the hard drive into and mount the hard drive onto before placing it in the enclosure. The more expensive case is sturdier, since there will be less of a chance of breaking the attachments since the drive is securely held on a separate mount. However, if this would have worked for me, then a bare bones case would have been fine for me...

4.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't support 640Gb HDD, November 29, 2009

This review is from: Eagle Tech ET-CS2MSU2-BK 2.5-Inch SATA to USB Portable HDD Enclosure (Mesh) (Personal Computers)
Most possibly outdated chipset is used in this enclosure as it doesn't support 640Gb HDD :( Tried same HDD with iOmega enclosure - all is fine. But this one is meant probably for 320 Gb HDD only. Besides, the unit is thicker than 0.8", though is quite compact. be careful though, the mesh panels are very easy to dent in!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for external SSD - use #0 Phillips screwdriver, February 24, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Eagle Tech ET-CS2MSU2-BK 2.5-Inch SATA to USB Portable HDD Enclosure (Mesh) (Personal Computers)
Using this for the 'old' Corsair SSD I replaced in my MacBook Pro. As others note, the screws are really small but not eyeglass screw tiny - you can work fine with them using a #0 phillips screwdriver.
Installation was easy, definitely not the case to use if you switch drives frequently or at all.
The USB cable uses two USB slots on your computer so for 15" and under MacBook Pro owners be advised both of your USB's are in use to power and run this drive as with most external drives that don't use an AC power plug too.
(This is more Apple's fault for only providing two USB ports on a $2500 machine with a Blunderbolt port we can't really use.)

The mesh case will not offer any shock or impact protection for a mechanical drive, no more than just plugging a mech drive into a cable and using it 'naked' but that should not be factor unless you're moving around a lot with it.
You can get some little stick-on round rubber feet to put on the bottom of the case and it's more stable on the table.
My case was not sitting flat when I was done - wobbled a but on the tabel - fixed by just holding case at the corners and applying firm (but not hard enough to damage hard drive!) diagonal pressure to bend it a bit. Now sits level.

For the money it's a good case and works well. I doubt I'd buy another one but it works fine.

It works, but there are more solid feeling and attractive options out there.

A little bit on the large side.
