4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Case
This double case does what it is advertised to do. Both drives will access off of one usb connection and the connection speed is acceptable. I have two 500GB drives connected to my computer via the case. The fan is a tad noisy, but nothing unacceptable. My only real minor gripe has to do with the drive fit. They seem less than snug making the connection to the case less...

2.0 out of 5 stars Noisy and Failed after less than two years
I purchased this almost two years ago. Occasionally the fan would screech loudly and I would have to tap it to get it to quiet down. When they quieted down it was still louder than it should be. Should have returned it when this occurred after 3 weeks. I kept it and it just failed entirely as the enclosure electronics have failed and the drives are no longer recognized.

This double case does what it is advertised to do. Both drives will access off of one usb connection and the connection speed is acceptable. I have two 500GB drives connected to my computer via the case. The fan is a tad noisy, but nothing unacceptable. My only real minor gripe has to do with the drive fit. They seem less than snug making the connection to the case less than ideal. It seems that if the case is tilted forward the drives will come loose. It feels like they are moving when this happens. I haven't actually tried this when the case is attached to the computer for fear that a quick disconnect will damage drive or computer or just make me irritable, but when non-powered the drives seem a little loose in the case.

Someone with a little more daring; give it a try with the power on and report back to the rest of us.

Bought one of these - worked fine for a few months. Yesterday turned on my system and BOTH hard drives were TRASHED! (System is fine, it is the Eagle Unit that is bad). Now it's a couple hundred bucks to restore, or Bye-Bye treasured items.
NEVER BUY THEIR PRODUCTS - support is useless too.
(Gee, too bad I couldn't give it ZERO stars!!)

2.0 out of 5 stars I almost returned this product., November 3, 2010

I decided to get this product bec I have strong faith with Eagle Tech. I almost returned this product. When I move it around it makes a clanking noise because the HDs are too loose. I have some adhesive pads that I have to put in order to stop the noise. I suggest that you check out other products before considering this one.

I was annoyed that when operating in Dual mode, I still had to reformat an existing hard drive that I inserted into the enclosure.

Moreover after about two weeks of use, today the drive is complaining again and saying that I need to reformat it. I don't know yet whether this is an issue with the drive or the enclosure, but I am definitely pretty suspicious of this enclosure.

The enclosure itself feels a bit flimsy, it's hard to tell whether the drive has been properly seated. In general the product looks nice but the fit and finish is mediocre.

A word of caution also for those looking to get USB2 instead of eSATA - USB2 write speeds max out at 25MB/s, which is pretty slow for transferring large media files.
