5.0 out of 5 stars The Eagles Soar Higher Than Ever
I'm wondering if there will be a VHS version of this video. I've heard 'Hole in the World' on the radio and I'm totally in love with it. It's the kind of song in this time in the world that everyone needs to hear to ease troubled times. The harmonies are so beautiful. It's soon to be another classic next to "Hotel California" or even better. The instrumentation...

The Eagles are now officially a quartet: Glen Frey, Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh. Their harmonizing on "Hole In The World" is reminiscent of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. The Eagles are now officially a quartet: Glen Frey, Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh. Their harmonizing on "Hole In The World" is reminiscent of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. It is one of the best sounding songs the Eagles have ever done. The video is also very well produced, focusing on the group in the recording studio. I especially like how the video ends, as Joe Walsh gives a knowing wink to the camera and unplugs his electric guitar. My problem with this release is its repetitiveness. First there is the video of the song with a 5.1 mix, followed by the same video with a stereo mix, followed by outtakes from the video with an abbreviated version of the song. By the time I got to the second disc, which is the audio version of the song, I was thinking enough of the same song already! The backstage pass to the Farewell 1 Concert Tour contains footage of the Eagles on the road, making jokes and rehearsing. Personally, I would have preferred having a bonus live song instead.

This is only a CD-single and should be listed as such. This song is available as a bonus CD on the DVD-single release, which you can get for less. As for the band: Outstanding. The song: outstanding. The price: rip off.

The lyrics are just soooo ahhhhhh! (lost for words), There's a hole in the world tonight/there's a cloud in the world of sorrow/don't let there be a cloud in the world tomorrow/ they say that anger is just love disappointed/...yeah, that catchy! Sadly, Don Felder will be missed. Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh and Tim Schmidt are still in top form. I've always loved their music. And this song has proved my loyalty to the best rock-n-roll band in the 20th and 21th century. Hopefully, it will be on CD sometime soon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hole Out Of This World, July 27, 2003
This review is from: The Eagles - Hole in the World (DVD Single) (DVD)
For the music of The Eagles, it has been nothing but a huge following, even after their tragic departure in the early 80's. Still, they came back time and time again, not just as singers with solo careers, but also as a group with Hell Freezes Over in 1994. Still, it is kind of sad that they're set to perform their final concert tour together. They just made quite an impact on the music today. Their latest song, Hole In The World, is a very crafty soul driven Rock song. The melody is just absolutely catchy and uplifting, when and where other people take you down from being uplifting. It is just a great song, but also the first and maybe only song the group did as a quartet. Don Felder, a longtime member of the Eagles, departed in 2002. Still, the song is still as potent as ever. I just hope the group can arrange to do one final album for the fans soon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eagles' Hole In The World Made Me Love Them Even More!, July 9, 2007

This review is from: The Eagles - Hole in the World (DVD Single) (DVD)
On the DVD for The Eagles Farewell Tour #1, Don Henley explains the 'conception' of the song "Hole In The World". He said that the band was supposed to go into the studio on Sept 11th to start work on a new album. Needless to say, they never went into the studio that day, or for some time after.

But that night, on Sept 11th, the song, Hole In The World was written. The lyrics are haunting. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up, and I cried, and played the song over and over.

I was at home on 9/11, and watched it all unfold on TV. I am a veteran of the US Air Force, and an Proud American. And every year on 9/11, I say a prayer for all the lives lost on that day, and pray for all their families. I also thank God that I live in America. And I thank God for all who survived 9/11, and for those who gave their lives to save others.

Their song, should also be an anthem for 9/11.

I applaude The Eagles, for their endearing lyrics, and songwriting expertise.

Just listen to the song, and you'll know why I cried.

This is a truly great piece of work by THE greatest rock 'n roll band ever! Two versions of the music video (one with Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio Mix, the other with Stereo Mix), a making-of featurette, and a behind-the-scenes of the Farewell I Tour featurette. And as a bonus, the CD single of "Hole in the World." The Eagles have never sounded better! Grade: A+

I bought the hole in the world dvd/cd set. After listening to it I was a little disappointed it wasn't recorded in dts and the snippets of them recording the song and their farewell tour.I had hoped to see more of them. The recording was in BLACK AND WHITE :( . They did not sing the whole song through on the dvd which was also dissapointing. I have to say I love the song it was a nice change for them. You can hear the song on the cd that comes with it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still Soaring!, July 3, 2003
By

This review is from: The Eagles - Hole in the World (DVD Single) (DVD)
The Eagles have been one of the most influential groups of the 20th century, and their new single, "Hole In The World," is a continuation of that. Penned by Don Henley and Glenn Frey, who wrote so many of the Eagles' classic hits, this song makes a good statement about where we are in society and what we can do to make things better, but does it without being preachy or overbearing. Henley, Frey, Joe Walsh, and Timothy B. Schmit are in top form on the beautiful harmonies that carry throughout the track. Vocally, the song bears some similarity to the group's popular version of Steve Young's "Seven Bridges Road," which appeared on the 'Eagles Live' album in 1980. The instrumentation on "Hole" is fairly understated, but that was likely done to allow the moving lyrics to really shine through.

The video is icing on the cake-the 5.1 mix is particularly stunning. The behind the scenes portion gives the viewer an idea of just how much preparation goes into an Eagles show, and contains some amusing moments from the musicians and crew, as well as a look at many of the technical considerations for just one show-in this case, it was the first show of the tour, in Richmond, Virginia.

Having been an Eagles fan for 20+ years, I'm still very much enjoying this release, and have watched/listened to it a number of times since I purchased it nearly a month ago. As good as "Hole In The World" is, it is indicative of a truly great album to come in early 2004.
