The Slap Straps are fairly convenient, but the distance between the loops is often too far, and more than that if you weigh more than 180 or so, I think you're going to disappointed with the amount of stretch you find in the nylon webbing. Polyester straps do not stretch like nylon and are nearly as environment resilient. I'd say if you are looking for an easy way to get hanging, these are fine, but as soon as you realize there is better equipment out there for around the same money, you might find these a bit of a let down.

I just bought an ENO DoubleNest Hammock and this is a MUST HAVE! I have some friends that have the regular straps, but they are definitely limited on hammock placement and do not have as many options. I like these straps because I can hang it from close trees or trees that are further apart with the many different strap options.

Lightweight, versatile, quick and easy to use, and essential for any travel hammock. I bought these straps for my ENO Doublenest and my husband's Grand Trunk lightweight travel hammock. Works perfectly with both and it doesn't scar the trees/hanging aparatus it hangs from.

Excellent, they held my 300Lbs + weight no problem. Easy to setup and take down. Lightweight and easily packable in very little space.

Get cargo-straps instead,

They work as advertised, but with 6 inches or so between each loop you can't really refine your position very well. When using these I'm almost always on the ground because I somehow end up able to get about 5 extra inches of slack, but not quite enough to make it to the next loop.
Instead I've switched to just using a cargo tie-down strap with a ratcheting buckle. Sure it weighs more, but it can support about 1 ton of weight and is literally a cinch to get the perfect amount of slack. Plus the range is further than one of these.

Wrong Material,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pro Slap Strap Set (Misc.)
First of all, let me say that this product is easy to use. HOWEVER, that being said, it has its flaws. One of those is that it is made from the wrong material, nylon. Nylon tends to stretch out over time when tension is applied to it, which isn't a good thing when you're in the hammock. If you're just going to use these for car camping or backyard use, then these are fine. If you plan on doing any backpacking or spending any significant amount of time in your hammock then DO NOT get these. Get poly straps instead.

I have been using the pro version of these for a while now and they have worked out great. Following are the main points based on my experience with these:
Pros * Very convenient - Tough to beat these for convenience - you just pull them out of the bag, wrap 'em around the tree (or whatever), hang your hammock, and you're ready to relax! * Flexible - Because they attach by threading around a loop on one end, they can attach to trees of variable diameters, from skinny to quite thick. They also have multiple attachment loops for your hammock S hooks or carabiners. * Quality - These have held up well from months of use. The materials used are of high quality and the stitching used for the attachment loops is well done and has proven to be strong. I haven't noticed any unexpected stretch in the straps; what stretch there is does not seem to be enough to worry about. Mine came with a weight rating of 400 lbs., and I trust these to hold at least that much. I haven't seen much wear on the surface of these despite rigorous use. * Easy on the trees - Because these are made of wide nylon webbing rather than rope, they tend to be easier on the surface on which they are placed. That is, they are less likely to abrade the bark over time or with frequent use. The straps also hold really well and I've never had one slip, even when using on the 4 X 4 posts on my backyard sun deck. Other thoughts There is no denying that these are very convenient, it can also be said that there are other alternatives that would be both less expensive and allow for more flexibility. For occasional or back yard use, I think these are great and worth the money. Backpackers or those who take these camping, however, may find them limiting. For one thing, the straps - even the 'pro' version - are only so long and have a fixed number of attachment points. Riggers, sailors, boy scouts, climbers, or other folks who are good with knots may find it more practical to use lengths of rope. For one thing, a longer length of rope allows you flexibility when finding a place to hang your hammock - trees aren't always going to space themselves conveniently for your hammock. A rope also gives you flexibility with regard to attachment point, whether you put a bight (loop) on the rope itself or use a prusik hitch: You can make the attachment for the hammock wherever you want. You can also use the rope for multiple uses, not just hanging the hammock, and the rope or webbing you use as an alternative can carry weight ratings many times greater than 400 lbs. Then there is the cost: you can save some dough by getting much longer lengths of webbing or rope versus this product. But not everyone wants to custom make their own hammock attachments with rope or webbing, and that's fine. So would I recommend these? Yes, I would, but with the qualifier that these only add convenience and that more flexible, useful, and less expensive alternatives exist.

Easy to use, but very stretchy.,
By Rhandhali (Lexington, KY USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pro Slap Strap Set (Misc.)
These SlapStraps are very easy to use - just wrap them around the tree, thread through the loop at one end and hook your hammock on. My problem is that they stretch. A lot. I weight about 220 lbs and used them camping overnight; I was about a foot and a half off the ground when I got in and was laying on it when I got up in the morning. These are OK for hanging out on the afternoon in the park or the backyard but I wouldn't take them camping or use them if I'm sleeping in my hammock.
The fixed loops also limit how much you can adjust the suspension on your hammock. Once again, this isn't a big deal for just lazing about but if you're spending three or four nights at a time in your hammock it's nice to have that additional adjustment.

Easy to use, but too much stretch,

I purchased these straps to use with my ENO Double Nest for backpacking trips (note that I am now a converted Hammock camper now and love the hammock over sleeping on the ground)The good part with these straps..... they are easy to setup and have plenty of length. The built in loops are very convenient. Okay, the bad part.... because the straps are made of nylon, they stretch during the night. This causes a couple of problems if you are using the hammock for overnight camping.... if you don't account for the 'stretch', you will find yourself bumping the ground sometime in the night. The other issue is that you aren't able to "dial" the hammock into the perfect position because it changes during the night due to the stretch. Weird thing about nylon is that it stretches while in use and contracts when it isn't being used. To overcome this 'stretch' issue, I have since replaced the Pro Straps with polyester straps and a whoopie sling suspension system (refer to any hammock forum for info on this). The whoopie sling system allows me to "dial in" the hammock to the optimum position. For quick setup, relaxing around the house or campsite, these straps are great. For backpacking trips, I needed something that wouldn't stretch at night, so I use the polyester/whoopie sling instead

Downgraded review - product lasted about a month,

I originally rated these as four stars because they APPEARED to be pretty sturdy. However, I've been using them for a month and this morning one snapped and slammed my head and back off the ground. For reference, I weigh about 170 pounds, so I'm WAY under the weight limit. Additionally, I attached them to two trees in exactly the way the directions prescribed.
For approximately $20 for what amounts to two nylon straps, one would think that these would last longer than a month. I had planned on purchasing one of the ENO brand hammocks, but that definitely won't be happening; I certainly won't buy any more garbage from this company. |
