5.0 out of 5 stars An Eagles Christmas
The Eagles hadn't released any new music in almost two years, so as a gift to their fans, they released this old Charles Brown Christmas song "Please Come Home For Christmas" in 1978. Don Henley conveys the aching and pleading of the original and it is one of the better Christmas songs out there.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eagles - Please Come For Christmas
3/5. "Please Come Home For Christmas" was released for Christmas of 1978 and was all that the record company could get from the band which, following the success of "Hotel California", suffered from a major writer's block and struggled to fulfill contractual obligations for release of a double CD. Although the Eagles do not drop below a certain level on this single, this...

5.0 out of 5 stars The last great Christmas song...., December 9, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Eagles: Please Come Home for Christmas (Audio CD)
This is truly the last great Christmas song recorded...in the past you've had Bing Crosby, Nat "King" Cole, Elvis and a few others with "classic" versions of our favorite holiday songs. But since the Eagles recorded this incredible version of "Please Come Home for Christmas" there had been nothing close! I had the 45rpm of this as a kid, and was so glad to get the CD last year...Get it while you can - because it is not on any compiliation CD on the market!! You will love it forever!

This is truly, the best X-mas song ever made. All remakes pale in comparison. In my humble opinion, X-mas isn't X-mas until I've heard this song.

3.0 out of 5 stars Eagles - Please Come For Christmas, December 6, 2011
This review is from: Eagles: Please Come Home for Christmas (Audio CD)
3/5. "Please Come Home For Christmas" was released for Christmas of 1978 and was all that the record company could get from the band which, following the success of "Hotel California", suffered from a major writer's block and struggled to fulfill contractual obligations for release of a double CD. Although the Eagles do not drop below a certain level on this single, this is not what one would expect of a typical Eagles record. The title track is a cover of Charles Brown song from 1961 with Don Henley on vocals. The song is based on piano and features typical Christmas elements, although Henley's crispy voice singing carols does not quite match the usual subjects of songs he penned during his career with the Eagles. The second song - "Funky New Year" which starts with band members clinking glasses and making a lot of noise while Glenn Frey plays sax - for the first and last time on an Eagles record - is much more Eagles of "The Long Run" era with heavy bass line courtesy of newcomer Timothy B.Schmit and guitar interplay by Joe Walsh and Don Felder. The singing style Henley showcases on this particular song is very much typical of his solo career. Might be good at setting funky New Year mood, but definitely not the best we heard from the Eagles. - Sain Alizada
