This was a total waste of money and a HUGE disappointment.

Per the ER doctor who saw my boy with a full blown ear infection one night at 3am, ater a negative result from the Ear Monitor.

Left ear read "1-Fluid unlikely" and right ear read "2-monitor" (other levels are 3-5 "fluid likely").

We bought this a few years ago when our son was maybe 6 months old. I got tired of suspecting an ear infection every time he had a runny nose and then a fever. I thought this product would give me piece of mind and save a few trips to the doctor. We always got a negative reading, so unfortunately it left us still feeling unsure whether a trip to the doctor was warranted. While we ALWAYS got a negative reading, our trips to the doctor ALWAYS resulted in no ear infection. It ended up getting buried in a drawer and we stopped bothering with it.
Fast forward to today...my son is now 27 months old and was diagnosed for the first time today with a double ear infection. As soon as we got home from the doctor, we dug this out of the drawer and tested both ears...sure enough it gave us the highest reading for both ears. I'm amazed and felt compelled to write a review so other parents know that in our case, this product has been 100% accurate.

After 6 yrs of constantly bringing in my dtr to the doctors I can finally rely on this to help make the decision. 3 usually means fluid in the ears and by 4 or 5 its an infection..

It's okay... IF you know EXACTLY where to aim inside the ear, then it probably works well. If you are guessing as to what angle to position the monitor within the ear canal, consider purchasing a "student model" otoscope instead. Then you can see what you're aiming for (the ear drum.) Also, there are online resources to help you identify what you're seeing. I use my otoscope often; it's saved me a few trips to the pediatrician. My "EarCheck Middle Ear Monitor" stays in the closet, unused.

My 3yr old hasn't been getting ear infections, but she has had fluid in her ears, and her hearing noticeably decreased for a couple of weeks, which started to turn into months. The ENT didn't push tubes or steroid treatment right away because her ears weren't infected, and he said sometimes it will clear on it's own.

We used this Earcheck Middle Ear Monitor (we call it 'the quacker' since it makes a sound similar to a quack in the ear) to track the variation in her hearing and level of fluid. When this arrived, she seemed to be hearing well, and she got 1's & 2's on the monitor. Then we had a day that she kept saying "What?" or "Huh?", and the monitor showed a 4 in one ear and a 2 in the other. (As others have stated: Make sure to pull back the ear, so you can see farther down the ear canal before you check with the monitor, or the results won't be accurate).

We then used "My EarDoc Plus", a behind-ear vibrating device, to try to help shake the fluid out of her middle ear. We used it mostly on the side that had the '4' on the monitor that day (because my 3 year old doesn't still for long). The next day, the better ear got a '1' and the worse ear got a '2'. And she seemed to be hearing a lot better.

So far, this has been working well to help us monitor ear fluid patterns in our preschooler's ears.

Gives you a piece of mind when you just arent sure what is going on with your little ones. I have used this many times and find that it gives me a peice of mind when my kids are acting fussy or have fever. Its very east to use and accurate. I havent had any errors with this products and it hasnt been wrong. My kids also dont mind me using it on them. It only takes a few seconds to use also. A must have for moms out there!

I thankfully have not had a reason to use this a ton since we started probiotics but it did work the one time that my daughter had an ear infection.
