5.0 out of 5 stars Hear this album and get goosebumps, July 12, 2002
This review is from: 1948-1949 (Audio CD)
Bostic -- the master, revered by Bird and Coltrane, and so many others from WW II onward, at the height of his interpretive and technical powers. His plaintive, expressive "The man I love" will send shivers down your spine, his urbane riffs and turns in "Slightly Groovy" will evoke the elegant world of Cary Grant, and his cheeky "Disk Jockey's Nighmare" with its suprising borrowed snatches from La Marseilleise, Rossini and other unlikely sources will make you smile.

Bostic's technique and ability are nothing short of phenomenal, and his inventive genius is equally astonishing, and is most often expressed in seemingly effortless virtuosic runs and twirls that provide interest without ever detracting from the melodic material. If you haven't ever heard Bostic's music before, this album is a superb introduction to his art, before he succumbed to commercialism in the '50's.
