5.0 out of 5 stars Very Entertaining Read!, May 15, 2009
This review is from: Earl and the Heiress (Paperback)
I found this book in a library discard pile in the office of the school where I teach. I picked it up, not knowing what it was about. It stayed tucked away in a drawer for several months. I rediscovered it three days ago and just finished it this evening. What a wonderful read! I thoroughly enjoyed Noelle's character, as well as Wrenthe. There are several humorous moments within this book. I found myself giggling aloud having read them. A very interesting 'look' at the inner working of Regency England.

I count myself extremely fortunate to have acquired this book for free. I highly recommend adding it your collection.

3.0 out of 5 stars An Ordinary Story, July 31, 2010
This review is from: Earl and the Heiress (Paperback)
Dogs, a young heroine with a penchant for saying what she thinks and a somber lord who needs some excitement in his life; these should be the elements for a great story. Sadly, this was an ordinary read.

Miss Noelle Armstrong has inherited some monies and a house from a deceased aunt. She is concerned that her younger brother and sister are given the chance to elevate their positions with the ton. She sets out to make sure that her sister, Ferne, is secured with a good marriage.

Enter Justin, the Earl of Wrenthe, a 35 year-old with a mistress and the ambience of a stone. Set in his ways, he meets Noelle to purchase one of her dogs for his lady. Some confusion ensues, he parts with his paramour and we are to believe he falls in love with the older sister. Perhaps because there are laps of story time between the hero and heroine, the age difference (she's 22) or unbelievability that after all these years Wrenthe would change, the book was minimal at best.

If you enjoy regencies and have nothing better to read then try this story. Otherwise, look for something else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 1st book by author, April 9, 2003
Barbara Metzger's first book ( Now out of print) is a gem of a find, when you can find it. The contrast between the characters is refreshing, humorous and enchanting.

If you enjoy Regency Books, (and can find this one) I think you will not be disappointed.
