Book Description

February 1992
Herbs--in new, easy-to-take pill and liquid forms--now dominate the shelves of health-food stores. Here is a book that finally recognizes this phenomenon and gives information about the safe and effective use of herbs. A chapter entitled "The Hot Hundred" profiles the 100 herbs that are most effective in relieving common ailments.

Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

The popular Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible (Warner, 1989. rev. ed.) has a sequel: the Herb Bible . This handy reference covers more than 100 common and useful herbs, giving preparation and dosage, benefits, and cautions. Mindell, a pharmacist and professor of nutrition, includes some background on the use of medicinal herbs in several cultures, plus chapters on preventative medicine, cosmetic use, and aromatherapy. This is a good, well-rounded introductory work on treating simple ailments. Mindell also includes plenty of cautions, explains what herbal remedies can reasonably be expected to accomplish, and recommends consulting a physician for serious conditions. If you already have a good general work such as Michael Castleman's The Healing Herbs (Rodale Pr., 1991), you might not need Mindell's book. Just don't confuse Mindell's book with John Lust and Michael Tierra's The Natural Remedy Bible (S. & S., 1990)--their focus is very different from the rational herbalism promoted by Mindell.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE Herbal for today!, June 10, 2000

Mindell does here for herbs what he did for vitamins in his "Vitamin Bible," only much better organized. Discussion includes potential interactions with other vitamins, minerals, herbs, AND prescription drugs; too often, natural remedy followers forget that, just because it's "natural," doesn't mean it won't interact with those other items.

This book is great for beginners studying Herbalizem. The Herbs are right in the store so there is no trying to figure out if the herb you found is the herb your looking for. This book includes easy instructions on how to use and prepare the various herbs from the most used herbs today. This book is a good reference so if you get a copy hang on to it.
