5.0 out of 5 stars Vitamin Bible, January 16, 2001
By
This review is from: Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible for the 21st Century (Mass Market Paperback)
Dr. Mindell knows how to take the confusion out of the many times confusing subject of nutrition. He has an amazing ability to take complex subjects and make them easily understandable and usable by the reader.

And the Vitamin Bible is extremely comprehensive. I've seen this book on the counter of many nutrition stores where proprietor and customer use it as a reference.

If you finally want to resolve your confusions and unanswered questions about nutrition this book is for you.

I have been a Doctor Mindell fan for a long time. He has an incredible ability to make tough science, fun and easy to understand. This book is his best and most up-to-date yet. It is simply the best vitamin/mineral book on the market today.

5.0 out of 5 stars For Vitamins, Look No Further, August 2, 2002
This review is from: Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible for the 21st Century (Mass Market Paperback)
Vitamins are organic substances necessary for life. They act like spark plugs to regulate your metabolism and keep your body well tuned. The book is well-reference so you can find information by vitamin, by illness, by lifestyle.

Some tidbits from the this book:

1) American men rank 13th in world health, American women 6th.

2) Vitamins cannot function without minerals. Although your body can make vitamins, it cannot make minerals.

3) Eighty percent of American women are deficient in Calcium.

4) The average life expectancy between smokers and non smokers is 18 years.

5) You can lower your risk of stomach cancer by eating an half onion a day.

6) When taking vitaminsit is best to space them out as far as possible for the maximum absorbtion, preferably after meals.

7) One cigarettes destroy 25 - 100 mg of vitamin C. Smokers should take vitamin C.

8) For calcium to be absorbed by the body, there must be vitamin D.

9) 1 gram of protein = 4 calories
1 gram of carbohydrate = 4 calories
1 gram of fat = 9 calories

10) Great way to exercise that burns more calories than bicycling, tennis, and swimming - JUMPING ROPE. A 150 pound person will burn 720 calories jumping rope for 1 hour.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vitamin Bible by Earl Mindell, July 13, 2003
This review is from: Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible for the 21st Century (Mass Market Paperback)
The author is both a pharmacist and nutritionist. The work
explains many aspects of vitamins including daily allowances,
benefits for the heart and lung, potency, precautions and a host
of relevant factors every consumer should know. He explains how
enzymes facilitate the digestion of food and how Lipase splits
fat. In addition, he demonstrates why older people might need
HCL supplements due to a paucity of digestive acids. The author
devotes a full chapter to explaining a glossary of complex
vitamin jargon. He breaks down vitamin-taking into various
constituent groups; such as, pregnant women, children, runners,
senior citizens, night workers and a host of relevant
constituencies. Did you know that plain ketchup has 8% more
sugar than ice cream? Lastly, he explains how to slow the aging
process via the use of nucleic acids.

The work is a good investment in developing a vitamin regimen
to complement key components of health maintenance.

5.0 out of 5 stars a beginers guide to vitamins and supplements, December 30, 1999
This review is from: Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible for the 21st Century (Mass Market Paperback)
I am following Dr Akins diet. Vitamins and supplements are a major part. I needed more information and a second opion. The vitamin bible is an excellent choice. The book explains in detail what vitamins and supplements you should use for your perticular health concerns. There is a chapter on the popular diets, with suggestions for additonal vitamins and supplements. Mr Mindell gives his own opions, and cautions through out the book. You know where he stands on every topic. I learned about this book from the pharmacy where I buy some of my vitamins and supplements.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best book I've read short of the REGULAR Bible, June 22, 2003
By
This review is from: Earl Mindell's Vitamin Bible for the 21st Century (Mass Market Paperback)
To put it bluntly, this book has EVERYTHING you could POSSIBLY need in it. It has combinations of vitamins and supplements for everything from how to get rid of jet lag, to what dieters should take, to the particular health needs of your pet dog or cat. If you read all the way through it, I'm relatively sure that you'll never come across a situation that you won't know what to take to help yourself out. And in my mind, that's what makes this book worth every single page it's printed on.
