A highly recommended introduction to Bird's '45 recordings,
By Mike Auber (London, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Early Bird (The Best of the 1945 Studio Recordings) (Audio CD)
Containing the seminal 1945 "Now's The Time" session with Dizzy Gillespie and Max Roach, plus a sublime collaboration with Sarah Vaughan, "Mean To Me", which is probably the closest we'll get to the sound of the legendary Billy Eckstine line-up, this is a great place to start your Bird collection if , like me, you're not a great fan of the Dial and Verve recordings.WARNING: This CD has been digitally remastered using CEDAR which brings out detail, but tends to colour the sound compared to the original recordings.

A Yard Bird winner,
By
This review is from: Early Bird (Audio CD)
Though I can't consider myself a real true blue experienced jazz fan, being from ole KC to me this one is a real winner and definitely worth the wait to get it. There are some real classics on this one such as "Sweet Georgia Brown", "Groovin' High" with J. B. Gillespie, "All the Things Your Are" and a few others. Highly recommended as a starter. Most are recordings from the early to mid '40s.
