this is a fantastic full bodied resource for studying the new tesament. It is well researched by two bona fide new testament scholars and the material is fair by dipping into both conservative, liberal, and semi-conservative views on many of the issues. The conclusions drawn on many subjects are sober and sane. Many issues are treated: new testament backgrounds, canon formation, Jesus studies, individual book issues and more. Just a great resource, a wealth of carefully researched material, I couldn't recommend it more!!

The authors make no secret of their Christian faith, but that doesn't get in the way of their objectivity. It's quite refreshing to see a balanced treatment of the biblical manuscripts, authorship, and contradictions from a perspective that is neither overly sympathetic nor hostile. And it has tons of information packed into its 700 pages, for a very reasonable price.

The many,many black and white photographs by the author Lee Mcdonald are extremely poor quality. I suspect they were color photographs that are reproduced in black and white. It is sad that this otherwise fine book has such poor illustrations.
