Early Explorer 10.5" Diameter World Globe

I selected this globe out of the many others because I thought that National Geographic brand would guarantee a high quality product. The map itself is nicely done, with many details and vibrant colors (brighter hues than the site shows) including country names (many were abbreviated), major cities, ocean currents etc.

HOWEVER, given the price I expected some quality throughout the product and was very disappointed that the "sturdy black base" is PLASTIC. The arm that holds the globe is also plastic. This will not last through my children's childhood inquiries and explorations as I had hope and is promptly being returned. I'm tired of cheap plastic components for my children's toys and didn't expect it from NG nor will it do for our family globe!
