Mike Conte (guitar, vox) and Adam Bennati (drums) knew each other from the great state of Ohio, where they grew up playing in a plethora of rock bands. Six years ago, they packed up and moved to New York and, four years later, evolved into Early Man. Although rotating bass players at first, Early Man has maintained its latest bassist, Dave Pajo (Slint, Papa M), for some time. So how does this trio sound? Like a metal revolution! How many epic metal jams can a band write without even one guitar solo? A boatload, that’s how many, and Early Man can prove it. Driving and grinding heavy riffage oozes from every song on Early Man’s debut EP, bringing to mind classic metal bands, but with enough lifeforce of it’s own to make it totally new and destructive. Early Man are true believers, without a doubt. And soon, you will be too. Metal is back!

early man is raw! i can't believe i'm not going to use any curse words in this review, because early man rocks so thoroughly, its hard not to cuss with delight. 'death is the answer to my prayers', with a title like that, how could they not rule. anyway, this is simple and very complex at the same time. a ozzy-ish voice , but more over-the-top, these guys are stuck in the 80s and never want to come back. 3 songs? be patient, metal deizens, for matador, the best label in the world, is putting out their first full-length in oct. the answer to MY prayers.

I like the rawness on this ep. the version of "fight" & "death is the answer..." on this EP are my favoriteversions of each song. Early man satisfies my need for REAL metal. It's refreshing to hear something like this. Like the first time I heard Kill em All, Black Sabbath or the new Holy Grail.

this is a 3 song EP that is badly produced. Do yourself a favor and buy Closing In instead. Early Man is a very good band but this EP is below standard
