Early tracks show less maturity,
This review is from: Early, Rare, And Unreleased: Volume 2 (Audio CD)
I haven't heard Volume 1 of Early, Rare and Unreleased, but after hearing this album it seems that these tracks weren't released for a reason. Since the tracks have been completely reproduced (despite the use of original equipment) it's hard to know whether these recordings were better, worse or about the same as the originals. Though I'm somewhat discontented with the album, I'd say that "Beneath the Silence" and the cover of Psychedelic Furs "Love My Way" are good tracks to add to my collection. It's also impressive that many of the tracks were originally written and performed while Shear was still in high school. If I were judging by thumbs, I'd give one thumb up for the reasons mentioned previously and one thumb down for the low quality lyrics and for tracks 1 and 3.

This review is from: Early, Rare, & Unreleased : Volume 2 [Explicit] (MP3 Download)
While this is the early work of a very talented musician, i would not suggest this as a starting point if you do not know Tom Shear. The songs are dotted all over the 90s and include a wide variety of very good songs that really do show just how much shear was influenced by bands like Depeche Mode. He has his own sound, however, and that shows as well. That said, this is not just for people who want to own everything. It has some really good stuff on it, all worth owning.Included here are the following tracks 9including length and year released): 1. Eschatology (1994) 01:47 2. Beneath the Silence (1989) 04:56 3. Graverobber (1992) 05:14 4. Black Day (1988) 04:26 5. Relationshit (1991) 04:20 6. Untitled (1995) 04:50 7. From Darkness Comes Light (1992) 06:13 download 8. Mary Behind the Counter (1994) 03:50 9. Alone (1992) 04:03 10. Love My Way (1998) 05:47 11. Psychotic (1995) 04:29 12. Pain (1995) 02:07 My favorite, if you want to sample them somewhere like you tube, is Mary Behind the Counter. It shows the multidimensional approach that comes with great lyrics, a profound voice, and something to say. Try it out and see.
