Victor Tretyakov Conquers the World,
This review is from: Early Recordings 2 (Audio CD)
I have listened avidly to many recordings of Paganini's Violin Concerto No.1 in D Major,op.6 and none come close to this particular version! The authoritive performance, the masterful conducting, and perhaps the method of recording all come together to convey what I believe Paganini had in mind as to how this piece should be heard.

Absolut Paganini (fasten your seatbelt),

Tretyakov's spectacular recording of Paganini's First Concerto with the then young Neemi Jarvi is, in my humble opinion, the premiere recording of this work. There are other excellent recordings - young Menuhin and Perlman for example: however Tretyakov's version leaves one absolutely breathless(and leaves the others behind in the dust). To say it is technically flawless is an understatement; however, it is Tretyakov's hair raising, daredevil approach that makes his performance stand out above all others. The Sauret cadenza (THE most difficult violin concerto cadenza in the repertoire) is particularly remarkable. I have been waiting since I was a kid to finally get this on CD(and it is cheap too!). Anyone who wants to hear violin virtuosity at the very highest level in one of the classic recordings should get this- I'll be ordering several to give to friends/familyt(my cassette wore out years ago). Fasten your seat belts and enjoy.
