Good but not the best by the Lillys,
By
This review is from: Early Recordings (Audio CD)
While this collection is strong, the best example I know of the Lilly brothers energetic mainstream bluegrass style is a CD available from Folkways through their web site. It's called "Folk Songs from the Southern Mountains" by The Lilly Brothers and Don Stover. The Lillys were going flat out on the fast numbers with great mandolin and ultra-high, ultra-lonesome vocals. Don Stover's banjo is driving and right on time. The ballads and slow gospel numbers are also first rate. ... I'd looked for this CD for years to replace my often-played vinyl copy. Check it out!

Lilly Brothers are the best!!!,

This was the first LP of the Lillys I got. As soon as it started playing "Bring Back My Blue Eyed Boy", I knew I loved them! This LP features some of the best recordings the duo ever made. Here they're helped out by Don Stover on banjo, Tex Logan on fiddle and an unknown bass player. It's traditional bluegrass mixed with brother duet, all at its best. If you don't already have it, buy it NOW!

Fantasic Recordings From Early Days Of Bluegrass,

This album features 11 sides recorded in 1956 and 1957 for the Event label. It's a brief album but it provides essential listening for fans of classic bluegrasss music. Contains excellent notes by Bill Vernon.
