5.0 out of 5 stars FIVE STARS FOR NAIL-BITING ACTION April 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
EARLY RELEASE FOR BAD BEHAVIOR, by Kevin Hopson delivers that and more.
The world is a dangerous place and in this tale of prison system intrigue, Kevin Hopson holds you from the opening salvo to the resounding finalé.

I am not going to give away the content of this story, but I will tell you, you are there, smelling the acrid aromas of death row futility. You hear the cries of other inmates long after their unusual "vacation" from the endless inertia of waiting for Justice's sentence of death to come.

You jerk from the deepest level of your soul at the inhumanity of those who transport these prisoners from one level of hell into another.

Kevin Hopson gives you a brief ride through the underbelly of the darkest worlds.

I can't wait to read the next Kevin Hopson adventure.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good read... April 25, 2012
By Jamie
Format:Kindle Edition
Positives: I don't normally do individual short stories, so this was a bit unique. The story was an interesting look at the inside world of prisons through the horror angle. There was a great build in tension and suspense.

Negatives: The shift from first person narrative to third person and back was disconcerting and awkward. Characterization was weak in the end and there was too much "explaining" that was a little anti-climatic.

Summary: A good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprising and satisfying April 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The horror trope of malevolent authority figures experimenting on prison inmates is a tad overused, but Hopkins puts an original spin on it by telling the story from the point of view of the inmate. I had to wonder why we weren't told what the protagonist had done to put him on death row, and why, except for his appearance, he seemed atypical from your customary hardened criminal - but rest assured, the reader will find the answer to that in the end, and that answer will be surprising (and all the more satisfying for it).

***SPOILER ALERT***
My main nitpick is that the stakes didn't seem high enough for all the trouble the characters went to - if the ill effects of Evans' 'treatment' wear off in a few days, then what was all the fuss about? Aside from that, though, this is a cleverly plotted short story that makes intelligent use of a twist ending.
