Taylor Mcferrin is the son of Jazz musician Bobby Mcferrin ( who appears on a track) and his debut "Early Riser" is a plush woozy mix of Jazz, Nu Soul and Electronica with other-worldly effects. Some songs have vocals with Taylor providing his on "Postpartum" and "Florasia", while a few guests provide the rest; Nai Palm's spoken/sung delivery on "The Antidote", Emily King on the quivery "Decisions", an elfin-sounding RYAT on "Place In My Heart", and Vincent Parker on "My Queen".

Wildly talented, he reminds one of a young experimental Stevie Wonder. Incredibly beautiful and deeply moving music sensitively and intricately composed. For fans of Shuggie Otis, Erykah Badu, Flying Lotus, Robert Glasper, and the like.

I literally can not stop playing this album since someone gave me it as a birthday gift. It's a beautiful mix of jazz and slightly off kilter r 'n' b that manages to sound contemporary without feeling 'trendy'. You can feel the vocal influence of nineties artists like Martina Topley Bird and Bjork in some tracks, while others mix a woozy production with straight ahead nu soul. All the while McFerrin's production melds the varying component parts together perfectly.

That being said those looking for an in your face funky collection will probably find the album too gossamer light for their tastes but if you want an accompaniment to sultry summer afternoon you won't be disappointed.

Very good first album. Maintains a somewhat somber tone with beautiful textures and melodies. Very mellow but I still find myself dancing. Great for sunny afternoon when you're feeling reflective

Easily will be one of the best albums of 2014. McFerrin has created an aurally stunning album, and it features some of the greatest cats in the jazz scene today--Glasper, Thundercat, etc. Sophisticated musically, but also democratic and soulful. A must buy.

It's not as banging as I thought it would be.
