A Piece of History,
By Carolyn "mystery mama" (Auburn, Maine) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Early Shaker Spirituals (Audio CD)
I met Sister Mildred at the Sabbathday Lake Shaker colony several years ago. She was one of the last of the eldresses to have lived there and learned the Shaker faith and songs as a child. It is clear from the recording that she is quite elderly when this was recorded, but her gusto is that of the young woman she was. If you are looking for great voices and harmony, this isn't for you. If you want authentic Shaker songs sung like they never may be again, this is a super album. For myself, I love the simplicity and enthusiasm.

I received the CD quickly, but am disappointed in the quality of sound recording...did they just use a hand held recorder?
