Prostate cancer has become, in common with lung cancer, the most frequent cancer in men. Since the treatment of prostate cancer at an early stage offers the only possibility of a cure, the treatment modalities being radical prostatectomy of radiotherapy, it is most important to facilitate early diagnosis of this disease. Recent major technical developments have been obtained in the field of transrectal prostatic ultrasonography, with major implications in the urological practice. This book describes in detail the recent advances made in the area of ultrasonography of the prostate as well as the most up-to-date endocrine therapy which, when combined, could lead to an earlier diagnosis and earlier treatment of prostate cancer, thus permitting a curative therapy.
