Editorial Reviews

A CD Back-up is great! This early stereo jazz record shows off the stereo quality by having, at times, full separation of instruments. TAKE 5 version is great, but every version of Take 5 by Brubeck is great. The sound quality is really high.

4.0 out of 5 stars STEREO at its best . . . when you hear it on a ZENITH, May 26, 2010
This review is from: Early Stereo Lp PLUS...CD Back-UP of : JAZZ SET, Zenith Presents a Collector's Item (Vinyl)
JAZZ SET (CSP 217) is a 1965 Columbia Special Products LP that was given away with the purchase of a Zenith console stereo set. It was also used on showroom floors to demo the equipment. That fine, familiar original version of "Take Five" for example would've been ideal for illustrating a system's high frequency response and with its extreme channel separation, must've sounded great in the store.

Each group is alloted two tracks. Van Damme's accordion has a Continental sound while Paul Winter's sextet oozes Brazilian charm. Duke's "Turkish Coffee" does indeed evoke the Middle East, while Brubeck's keys and Desmond's reed define "cool jazz." By comparison, André Previn and Village Stompers are more AM adult Pop than jazz.
