STEREO at its best . . . when you hear it on a ZENITH,

This review is from: Early Stereo Lp PLUS...CD Back-UP of : JAZZ SET, Zenith Presents a Collector's Item (Vinyl)
JAZZ SET (CSP 217) is a 1965 Columbia Special Products LP that was given away with the purchase of a Zenith console stereo set. It was also used on showroom floors to demo the equipment. That fine, familiar original version of "Take Five" for example would've been ideal for illustrating a system's high frequency response and with its extreme channel separation, must've sounded great in the store. Each group is alloted two tracks. Van Damme's accordion has a Continental sound while Paul Winter's sextet oozes Brazilian charm. Duke's "Turkish Coffee" does indeed evoke the Middle East, while Brubeck's keys and Desmond's reed define "cool jazz." By comparison, André Previn and Village Stompers are more AM adult Pop than jazz. PROGRAM-- SIDE ONE [3:00] Maria Ninguem - Paul Winter Sextet [2:42] Spell of the Samba - Paul Winter Sextet [3:16] The Girl from Ipanema - André Previn [2:17] Sunrise, Sunset - André Previn [5:21] Take Five - Dave Brubeck Quartet [2:56] Cable Car - Dave Brubeck Quartet SIDE TWO [3:02] Cry Me a River - Art Van Damme [2:07] Bluesette - Art Van Damme [2:40] Turkish Coffee - Duke Ellington [4:10] Petite Waltz - Duke Ellington [2:29] Fiddler on the Roof - The Village Stompers [1:52] Hey, Look Me Over - The Village Stompers TOTAL TIME: 35:52
