I don't give many 5 stars, but regard 4 stars as a very strong rating. If like me you love bands that can deliver whole collections of melodic pop-rock songs, then don't miss this one. Early Winters echoes many of my favorite 60s bands (Beatles, Byrds, Zombies) - that amazing congruence of British Invasion, pop, and LA folk-rock that illuminated the decade and complemented the equally amazing creation of hard blues-driven rock. Intelligent but not pretentious lyrics, tight harmonies, bell-clear vocals... Many of the songs sound tantalizingly familiar but you can't quite place them. I expect to be listening to this one for some years.

Interesting melodies, thoughtfully-crafted lyrics, and distinctive vocals make Early Winters my new favorite band. Standout tracks to me are "Light of Day" and "Spanish Burn," although the entire album is highly listenable. The band has two lead vocalists, one male and one female, which I think gives Early Winters the ability to switch up their sound a bit within the album. They are somewhat difficult to categorize, but if I had to do so, I'd say "singer-songwriter with a dash of pop." The dash of pop keeps their melodies more upbeat and varied than others in the singer-songwriter genre. Give them a listen! Right now their album is a $5 Amazon special - great deal!
