Exactly what the title says: Tiger Army's,
By Justin Kennedy (Abingdon, VA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Early Years (Audio CD)
This short (barely over 12 minutes long) six-song EP is a nice collection of previously unreleased and hard-to-find Tiger Army tracks. It starts off with the songs from their first EP, released in January of 1997 on Chapter Eleven Records. "Temptation" is a solid rocker with nice vocal hooks and melodies. This is possibly the best track on the disc. The second track "Jungle Cat" is a good one as well, with a faster tempo and some nice slap-bass work. "Twenty Flight Rock" is a Eddie Cochran cover song that is also on TA's first full-length. This is a different version, and possibly a better one. While these tracks display TA's immaturity as a band, they are perhaps the most authentic of any TA's songs ever relesed. If you like the band's first album, you will dig these songs. The final three tracks are "American Nightmare", "F.T.W.", and "Noctural". "American Nightmare" is, of course, the classic Misfits song, and it is probably the weakest of any of the tracks present. The Misfits did it better....this version isn't so great. Moving on, "F.T.W." is a demo version of the song from TA's second album; if you're like me and prefer early TA over their later material, you will like this version better than the one on "Tiger Army II". You can actually hear the slap-bass and the recording is much more raw. The final track, "Nocturnal", is a demo version of TA's unofficial anthem. The version here demostrates the band's sloppiness and immaturity and I love it! No polished-up retakes or dub-overs. The general feel of this EP is fast and quick, displaying some rough and primative psychobilly tunes that are miles ahead of TA's newest material. Like I said before, if you're into TA's first LP chances are you will like this EP. If not, you're probably gonna hate it. A note on the packaging: The packaging is phenonemal with a nice gatefold paper sleeve, much like a vinyl relese. It also includes 3 early photos of Tiger Army (Nick 13, Adam Carson, and Joel Day) posing "around town". Again, totally unprofessional but great authentic photos. There is also an insert with an explanation of why this disc was released. There should be no need for an explanation...maybe we need one for "Power of Moonlight" though?? There are also lyrics for "Temptation" and "Jungle Cat". Oh yeah, the colours are great....when you get this, you'll know what I mean. BUY THIS DISC NOW!!!

American Psychobilly,
This review is from: Early Years (Audio CD)
Great early stuff. A fun six song ep sampler from a band that has become the foundation for modern American psychobilly.

This record is issued just because Nick 13 understands fans. To complete fans collection is this EP priority.
So here you will hear what the band recorded before their first album. Demos of Nocturnal and Twenty Flight Rock, F.T.W. was slightly different and three other tracks that they didn't released before (Temptation, Jungle Cat, and a cover of The Misfits' rockabilly American Nightmare).

of course the ep, was everything that i expected it to be. All of Tiger army's stuff is great. Especially the cover of the misfits - american nightmare. I have read reveiws from people that said they didnt like it, I thought it was a very good cover of it myself. To hear any misfits song done by a very talented psychobilly band is good. Anyways, i definatly reccommend this to anyone who has Tiger Armys other stuff. Its very short, but its worth every bit you pay for it.

for the fans' interest,

This CD is directed towards serious Tiger Army fans. It a collection of some earlier Tiger Army recordings. It is certainly not as good as the other CDs, but it is not intended to be. It is more for the interest of the fans than for those with a more casual interest in the band.If you do not have the other CDs, get those first. They show the true capabilities of Tiger Army. But, if you have a strong interest in the band and are familiar with the other CDs, I recommend buying this CD.
