5.0 out of 5 stars Earning Your Own Respect, November 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Earning Your Own Respect: A Handbook of Personal Responsibility (Paperback)
Bring your yellow highlighter when you read Earning Your Own Respect! I did and, when I fall back into my years of negative and self-defeating thought, I have this gem of a book to help pull me out. I never realized how much of prisoner to childhood thought patterns I was until I read this book. Now I have been breaking free with the help of the author's thought-provoking tools and exercises. Oh! And I love the "Should Monster!" It's worth the read just to meet this malevolent creature!

5.0 out of 5 stars A message from the author of Earning Your Own Respect, September 3, 2001

This review is from: Earning Your Own Respect: A Handbook of Personal Responsibility (Paperback)
The books I have previously written have been about what happens --- or what I believe needs to happen --- inside the process of psychotherapy. Earning Your Own Respect is about what I believe needs to be happening outside the therapy room, outside the personal growth seminars, and outside the covers of self-help books. For as much as I believe in what I do for a living, I also believe that we must balance study with application, and preparation with action. As important as it is to break through the resistance to reaching out for help when we need it, it is equally important to learn how and when to rely on ourselves. The goal of any good therapy or strategy for personal growth should be to help set us back on our own two feet, to connect us with our own good judgment, to re-introduce us to the one person on this earth whom we need to be able to trust above all others. Guess who?

I hope you like the book. Please let me know what you think.

Thom's work goes beyond words on a page or a voice on a audio -tape . Thom brings it on home to where we all live , struggle and hopefully celebrate. Peace of mind and being comfortable with myself starts with forgiveness and ends with love of myself and others. Thanks Thom for the help on this journey and the best part about you Thom , you're right there with us ...you're one of us , a brave traveler.

Thom Rutledge is funny, insightful and full of grace in Earning Your Own Respect. This book is a slam dunk for those of us on the road to forgiveness and hope. We need more like Thom, who have wisdom to share, not just information or advice. Do yourself or someone in the family a favor and give Earning Your Own Respect a new home.

5.0 out of 5 stars Respect Yourself First, December 15, 2011

This is an excellent book. As a therapist, I recommend it to my clients often and they really enjoy the changes they experience in themselves when they use the book as a guide on how to respect themselves first. After one respects himself/herself, it is amazing how others begin to respect them too.
