Editorial Reviews

Review

An excellent choice for anyone hoping to experience Disney as an unencumbered adult, male or female. (Sara Miller Library Journal, Oct. 15, 2013)

Scott’s descriptions take the reader right into the action … His account of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror may induce vertigo. (Publishers Weekly, Web exclusive review/released Nov. 1, 2013/)

While this book is targeted at men…, I would seriously recommend it to anyone. … It’s hilarious. (Heidi Strawser, blogger Inside Heidi’s Head, HeidiStrawser.com, Oct. 19, 2013)

An entertaining guidebook. ...The book is written from the point of view of a man’s man...channel Tim Taylor from Home Improvement and you have an idea of what you are in for. (Jason Dziegielewski, blogger The Geek's Library, Disney Geek.com, Nov. 1, 2013)

The humor and the descriptions make the book easily directed at anyone who wants to learn a bit about the parks while laughing along with the author. (Natalie Henley, blogger Meet the Magic.com, Oct. 20, 2013)

Tailor-made to ease the fears of the manly among us who think that Walt Disney World is one big sing-along of it’s a small world…with a serious sense of humor that might make you laugh out loud. (Natalie Reinert, blogger That Dis Family.com, Nov. 4, 2013)

I just finished reading [it]… and I'm still laughing out loud. …This is a must read for WDW fans! Men and women alike will enjoy the good-natured humor. (Deb Silhan, blogger Focused On The Magic.com, Nov. 16, 2013)

Scott makes a convincing argument that WDW is a real challenge, in a manly way, for men. …Highlights include Drinking Around the World at Epcot, …what to miss if you’re traveling with missies, …and Top Ten Scariest Rides. (Heather Shaw, magazine book reviewer Foreword Magazine, Winter 2014)

Persuasive and fun. … Even if you don't know of any reluctant Disney travelers, you will enjoy reading this…different perspective on the parks. (Christy Viszoki WDW Radio, January 20, 2014)

If you want to read a fun, humorous WDW travel guide book… I promise, you WILL enjoy reading this book….[It] was even fun for me to read, and I’m a girl. (Jeanie Gallo-Ciscon WDW Fan Zone, May 28, 2014)

A fun, entertaining, and informative read!

After reading Bart Scott, I found myself reflecting upon the wisdom of the great philosopher Red Green: I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to.

This book is supposedly written for manly masculine non-quiche eating man-cave dwelling guys. But it really written for everyone, but yes, it would be a good gift to give to a guy who is afraid of going to visit Disneyworld.

Mind you, that is a very real fear and not without some basis. If you have had the bad experience of hitting Disneyworld on a real hot and crowded holiday weekend, and tried to cram 5 days into 3 days, what with fussy kids and a rapidly shrinking pocketbook, then yes, you likely have Disnophobia. Or maybe you have just read about nitemare trips like that.

This book will get you back in the game, make you understand how DW can really be fun for a Guy’s guy. It would be a nice companion book to the Unoffical guide and to Mousejunkies. Mousejunkies is another fun book which shows you some of the most fun things at that mega-park, and the UUnofficial guide will show you best when & how to navigate around. When being very important. (Hint, don’t go on that summer Holiday weekend).

This is not a full guidebook by any means. In each park, the author does not attempt to attempt to tell all, just give his “fellow man” some hints and tps on what to do- and not to do.

Quite funny. Suggested for any real Disney fan.

As an admitted Disney junkie, I am intrigued by all things adorned with Mouse ears. I actually read this book while on Disney property and giggled away. While this book is hilarious for Disney veterans, newbies and first timers will not miss the humor! Bart has done a phenomenal job at taking a "childish" place and making it appealing chest beating men who don't really "get" how going to the parks is fun for them too, much like the one I'm married to! I will be passing this along and sending some as Christmas gifts this year.

Just finished Ears of Steel and was sad when i got to the end! It really feels like you are going through the parks with Bart. I've been to the parks more times than i can count and he really knows his stuff! He proves that Disney is nore than princesses and kids stuff. His advice is spot on and really funny too! Great book to help you plan your next trip or just to re-read the next time you'reyou're craving a lil Disney magic!

First of all, this book was written for men. I am certainly no man. According to the book, I was “supposed” to read a small chapter in the beginning and hand the book to my man. Seeing that I just went ahead and read the book, I was apparently breaking the law:)

What I found in the book was whit and macho hilarium. In fact, I would love to meet the author, Bart, simply so I could see him using his humor first hand! The book was great at presenting excitement for attractions from a man’s perspective. The humor poked at the more feminine aspects of the Disney parks and greatly highlighted the more manly aspects of a visit to Disney World (such as describing how to Drink Around the World in EPCOT).

The book is directed towards those males who may not want a vacation to Disney because the parks overadverise the softer, more child-like aspects of the park. However, the humor and the descriptions make the book easily directed at anyone who wants to learn a bit about the parks while laughing along with the author.

After reading Bart Scott, I found myself reflecting upon the wisdom of the great philosopher Red Green: I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to. I guess. AS LONG AS I GET TO GO TO DISNEY WORLD!

I love this book! The author does a fabulous job of capturing his passion for Walt DIsney World, while being informative and light and simultaneously not sugar coating anything. This book is a fantastic resource for a first time guest, or a fun way to pass the time between trips for Disney park veterans like myself. BUY THIS BOOK! You won't be disappointed! :)

This book is great! Very fun, entertaining read providing a man's view if all things WDW. Great for ladies to read to so you are armed with plenty of "guy friendly facts" while traveling to WDW or trying to sell your man on a trip. I have been to WDW plenty of times, but learned a bunch from this book ;).

More About the Author

Author Bart Scott is a writer, podcaster & artist living in the Chicago area. More importantly he's a dad and a husband and a borderline obsessive Disney fan. His first book, Balaam is a fun, exciting adventure for young readers (and those young at heart) based on the Old Testament character of the same name. Oh, and his talking ass!
His latest book, Ears of Steel: The Real Man's Guide to Walt Disney World is somewhat irreverent, somewhat satirical, and entirely hilarious! This travel guide was written with tongue planted firmly in cheek, partly to justify his own Disney addiction, but also as a tool for the ladies out there who can't get their man to believe Disney's not just for kids. Written with the personal mandate that it be funny first, helpful . . . well, maybe, readers of both genders love it. Whether you've never been to Walt Disney World or you've been one hundred times, you'll laugh out loud over and over again!
