I'm Concerned That We May Run Out Of Water Before Long,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Earth 2100 (DVD)
This isn't a 'fun' movie to watch, but I decided to watch it again after having seen it on television, this time because on vacation I had seen an empty, dried-up pit where a lake used to be. Nothing grows without water. That got my attention.Other weather changes here and there, huge ice storms and blizzards where they don't typically happen, make me believe we may be dealing with some sort of global 'change' if not global warming. I have no intentions of getting into the debate about the politics or other beliefs about global warming, but I think it would be very wise for us to consider what we can do to protect and maintain what we've been given. I'm not a scientist and know little or nothing about these things, but I do know that there are a few things I can do, and if we all do a few little things, we may have fewer disasters in the near future. There are some good ideas sprinkled throughout the drama. This presentation gives me a great deal to think about. I would recommend that anyone watching it decide beforehand not to be overwhelmed with all of the disasters portrayed. The end of the DVD is probably more hopeful than I am that we can make changes that will make a difference. It certainly won't hurt to try.

Earth 2100: A Possible Future?,

EARTH 2100 is perhaps one of the scariest films I have ever seen. Not because it is filled with blood and guts or monsters, but because it could be the future we make for ourselves. At this time, oil is spewing into the Gulf of Mexico that is the environmental nightmare of all of us, and climate change deniers seem to be gaining ground in the media and within the public at large. This film which depicts what our world will become based on scientific models and reasonable assumptions based on current conditions is a one of shortages, violence, and catastrophe on a monumental, global scale. It does, however, offer us hope. The crux of the film, and all the political decisions that follow, is based on a summit that is suppose to occur in 2015, but is perhaps more like the one in Copenhagen in 2010. If consensus is reached on common, global goals, we get one future, but if not, we get a horror far beyond our imaginings. The ultimate decisions that global decision makers make will affect us all, and this film shows just how badly those decision makers are. It is the kind of film you need to see with friends and family and then discuss at great length, because how we influence those who make decisions can affect which future we get. It is a call to action on issues that will affect not only our own lives, but that of our children and grandchildren. It is mostly animated, but the scientific and political discussions that are inserted by real researchers and policy makers brings home just how realistic the projections of the animation are. It is well worth the time to watch, then discuss, and finally act to create a better world. We must prevent this kind of future, and strive for the kind the end of the film offers as an alternative.

One of the best,
This review is from: Earth 2100 (DVD)
I've watched a number of environmental programs, but this is my favorite. It's a scary, but very realistic vision of what the future will be like as we face converging issues like water shortages, climate change and peak oil. If anything, I find it's timeline a little optimistic -- I think things will get worse quicker than they predict. But it's a very grounded and moving fictional account of what life could be like as we face depleted resources. I bought a copy to keep on hand. If you haven't seen it yet do yourself a favor and at least rent a copy.

excellent narrative of what may come. In fact, the way things are in the world today the life of Lucy is probably how our children will grow up. Some of us have been saying this for far to long and it seems the corporations who buy the politicians will drive us over the cliff soon enough. Good luck young people, I'll be dead before the water stops.

This is a truly great film. Shown on ABC this summer, it now coming on DVD. What makes this work is the combination of a fictional screenplay with interviews of experts around the world. Unlike similar "disaster" films this has a direct connection to science. The Day after Tomorrow was a great film but had at best a very dubious connection to science. Nobody has ever really done a video like this before. The one major problem with the film is the very last part which paints a rather unrealistically optimistic view of what can be done to prevent the film's future from becoming a real future. I have list of books on my profile about professional studies of the future. You might want to watch this while reading Lester Brown's Plan B 3.0. There are real solutions to build a viable solution. This film will hopefully motivate people to move in positive direction. I would also recommend National Geographic's National Geographic: Six Degrees Could Change the World.

This is an educational program that was featured on the History Channel. It is part documentary, part motion comic. It is narrated by a character named Lucy who is born sometime after the year 2000, I cant quite recall the year, but she is 75years old by the end of the program. By the time she is 75 the planet has undergone a series of political and enviornmental tragedies that pretty much relegates life on earth back the dark ages. This program is a cry out for people of today (actually 2years ago being that it aired in 2010) to change our way of life so that the future is not destroyed. A lot of people liked this programme and a lot of people hated it. I liked it. I found it entertaining, even though a bit far fetched. Anything is possible, I guess. What I dont understand is why people get so pissed off about the Global Warming argument. Is there any doubt that we are treating our planet like a toilet -regardless of the probable consequences? It is a fact that we have all but decimated the rain forests. Also no doubt that whole species have gone exstinct or endagered because of our practises. Bees are dying everywhere in large numbers and the Ocean is just disgusting. Maybe none of this means anything. Maybe the Earth is ours to urinate and crap on until it is just one big ball of stink, but does that sound cool, or decent or alright to anyone? Perhaps this documentary is a little far fectched, but if nothing at all, perhaps it does beg the question: Why not clean things up a bit? A lot of people are arguing that the Global Warming trend is just something being spouted by a group that wants to make money. To that I say: "Which side are you on?" the reason why we haven't changed our ways is because of the other group not wanting to lose all the money they have invested in destroying the planet. In the words of Joni Mitchell -I look at life from both sides. I see that there are two villans.

No reason to buy this in Blu-ray. Picture quality is the worst of anything I have ever seen on Blu-ray. Not even up to standard DVD. Didn't get to see the whole thing on ABC. Story is interesting, but transfer is garbage.
