The Change Was Good,

Air Supply proved that change can be good. Although they certainly did have a good sound with their light and "airy" hits from the 70s and 80s, this album signaled a radical departure for them. It is more creative and features much better material. Songs such as "She's Got the Answer" and "Dancing With the Mountain" are great examples. Creative, melodic, and featuring a good use of both vocalists. Russell Hitchcock is obviously the better of the two, but the switching back and forth was used very effectively on this effort! Even the rather syrupy "The Earth Is" is an enjoyable "anthem" to save the earth. All in all, with this album, Air Supply became a much more interesting album, and paved the way for their future efforts, culminating in their finest effort, "The Vanishing Race." If you like "The Earth Is," you'll really like "Vanishing Race."

A very good album by one of the greats.,

Air Supply is one of the best contemporary artists ever; and although their popularity died in the mid 80's, they never stopped making great music. This album pretty much proves that fact. The first half of the album is awesome, with "Stronger Than The Night" and "Speaking of Love" being the best. The second half, however, is not so good. Nevertheless, Russell Hitchcock's vocals are fantastic, and Graham Russell is also good. This album is definately worth a listen.

A stark departure from the duo's traditional sounds...,
This review is from: Earth Is (Audio CD)
A very different direction for Air Supply was achieved on this record. The duo showcased their ability to change with the times. Gone are the sappy melodic pop ballads that made the duo famous in the 1980's and enter a direct evolution for the band who matured greatly with this record. This was the first record after Air Supply split briefly. I think that Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell realized they needed each other to stay successful and employed in the music industry. Bottom line is that this album delivers and goes down as one of the great one's out of their huge catalog of albums. "Stonger Than The Night, Dame Amore, Dancing With The Mountain, The Earth Is" & one of my favorites from the duo "Bread And Blood" make this album a MUST HAVE for any Air Supply fan!

I love this album! "Stop the Tears" always mends a broken heart.I really love "Speaking of Love" and "Stronger than the Night". I'm a Christian though, so I thought that "Bread and Blood" was rather offensive. Aside from that and "Dame Amor" it's a great album.

Better than I remembered,

I'm a big Air Supply fan, but find myself listening to the hits or my favorite albums ("Lost in Love", "Air Supply" (1985) and "Love and Other Bruises")more than the later albums. Before I purchase "Mumbo Jumbo" I decided to go back and listen to all of the previous albums. One of the first things I noted is how much of an improvement "The Earth Is" over "Hearts in Motion". There are many more strong songs on "Earth". "Stop the Tears" has always been a particular favorite of mine and I put it on a compilation I made myself. I've now been finding myself humming "Stronger Than the Night", and once the slow open of "Speaking of Love" is over, it's a nice midtempo number with a good melody. And while no cover could be any better than Nilsson's version of (Badfinger's) "Without You", Air Supply's version is quite good, and Russell Hitchcock's voice is well-suited to it, and the harmony with Russell and Graham Russell is very pretty. Most of the songs are five minutes are more and a few could have stood a bit of editing (particularly on some slow intros), but this is overall a nice album. I'd say 3 1/2 if there were half stars in the ratings, but I'll bump it up a half star since it's Air Supply!

The Earth Is... a great CD!,
This review is from: Earth Is (Audio CD)
Though it isn't Air Supply's best, it's a pretty decent album! "Stronger Than The Night" really rocks, and I love it! "Without You" is better than Nilsson, and I still get chills. I liked 7 out of 10 songs... which becomes roughly 3 1/2 out of 5 stars, rounded to the nearest whole star... you get the picture. "Dancing With The Mountain" has got that rhythm! The title track is a little syrupy. But I'm one of those tree-hugger, environmentally conscious people, so I can appreciate it. (But not everyone can!) "Love Conquers Time" is a little weird, kinda boring. What I really love about this album is just how creative it is. Though sometimes they get a little too creative ("Dame Amor" is probably the worst song they have ever done... what were they thinking?) with obscure lyrics, ("Don't confuse strength with pride and mud"? What?) I love them always.

It's authentic Air Supply again. Practically a band member, Producer Harry Maslin sends us parachuting off a hot air balloon. Drummer Ralph Cooper takes a satisfying "analog" presence in the arrangements.

Luis Mejia (son) - Air Supply's comeback turns up into an updated '90s effort for the band, but the sound is much more uneven than ever. The most acquiereable song here is Badfinger's interpretation of "Without You" which even got some mild attention, apart from a whole range of average efforts ("Stronger Than The Night", "The Earth Is", "Stop The Tears", "Love Conquers Time") and the much dull side of the rest of the songs. As far as their creative phase since Lost In Love until the still charmful Hearts In Motion, there is nothing left than the talented "Without You".
