This review is from: Earth Angels: A Pocket Guide for Incarnated Angels, Elementals, Starpeople, Walk-Ins, and Wizards (Paperback)
Most individuals are born into earthly existence to struggle and grow through lives of primarily earthly focus. However, there is a sizable minority of souls whose focus, and origin, is not of this earth. These are the Earth Angels as Dr. Virtue terms them. They are not here primarily for material and mundane concerns. Rather, they are the light workers put here for higher reasons- to teach, to protect, to heal. This well produced little pocket guide is a well organized introduction to all categories of "Earth Angel": You know deep down whether your primary focus, your center, lies in this world or the next. Yet, both the test in this book, as well as the nicely done descriptions of each of the specific categories serve as reassuring validation. And there is a reason that so many of us are here at this time. As the author points out, the old systems such as governments, corporations and churches are beginning to fall. Teachers, guides, councilors are needed to light the path towards a better way.

Nominated as Spirituality Book of the Year!,

This review is from: Earth Angels: A Pocket Guide for Incarnated Angels, Elementals, Starpeople, Walk-Ins, and Wizards (Paperback)
This phenomenal, groundbreaking book was nominated as Spirituality Book of the Year in the 2003 Kindred Spirit Awards, in the category of spiritual books. Kindred Spirit is the UK's leading spirituality magazine. This is an excellent book for people who are interested in spirituality and have a sense of being "different" in some way. Dr. Doreen Virtue outlines 5 different types of "earth angels" and includes information on how to know if YOU are an "earth angel." The book also contains helpful guidance for you if you identify with one or more of the earth angel groups. If you enjoyed reading Doreen's book "Healing with the Angels," you are sure to enjoy this book as well. There are interesting anecdotes from people who relate to being an earth angel, as well as key physical characterisitics for recognizing other earth angels on our planet. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book- it contains fascinating and helpful information for many people on a spiritual path. It is particularly helpful to people who may have a sense of not "fitting in," as it explores why earth angels feel this way. If you feel drawn to this book, you will most likely learn something new about yourself in the course of reading it.

Explained a lot of my "weird" behavior. This is the 2nd Doreen Virtue I've read and I'm reading another now. I find her books to be very helpful and uplifting. If you feel like you're different from others I would recomend this book.

Never one to embrace the concept(s) of reincarnation (don't we have enough to deal with in this lifetime?:), along with the idea of being just another sheep, grazing with a "different" herd, made me want to run and play the nearest copy of "I Gotta Be Me"! So, I set aside my analyical mind, "asked" for some quiet, open space and found... an EXTREMELY enjoyable and entertaining book! Then came the deeper appreciations: the "short, sweet, and to the point" nature of the book. able to read in 1-2 sittings, and, yes, the moments of "That's me, too!" Funny how getting answers to the littlest things, actually gave me peace, like why I hear those li'l high-pitched tones in my right ear, and why I absolutely HAVE to live near the ocean.Well done, Doreen Virtue! You have a new fan! (And have given this "lone sheep" some fresh, new light to nibble on!)

This is honestly, one of the BEST books I have ever owned. I have already loaned it to two people, who are buying, referring, or giving this book as gifts. It is small, easy to understand and read, and the BEST part is the true/false quiz to help you understand where you fit in as a Lightworker. It is just awesome. I feel empowered, and grateful. In fact, I am going to pick up my copy from my friend this afternoon, because I want it back right now.

I wans't really sure what to expect when I picked this book up off of Amazon. I'd heard it was something kind of like Otherkin, but not using that term. I was a little leery when I saw that the author was a very popular, angels-are-all-sweetness-and-light New Age icon, but decided to give it a try anyway.
Talk about Otherkin Lite. "Earth Angels" are basically people who are reincarnated "elementals" (read: therianthropes, elves and fae Otherkin), angels (read: angelkin), starpeople (read: aliens), Wise Ones (read: people who worked magic in a past life) and walk-ins. Okay, that's not so very different from what a lot of Otherkin believe. However, it's how she explains the phenomenon of people who were not human in other lives that ruins the book for me. First off, the way you determine what type of "Earth Angel" you are is basically a 30-question "Are you like this? How about this?" quiz that would fit in perfectly on Quizilla--samples of questions are whether you're overweight, if you dye your hair, if you're of Celtic ancestry, whether you're good at handling money or not, if you practice Reiki, or believe in magic. Supposedly these things tell you what type of Earth Angel you are (never mind that pretty much everything she asks about are things that are common among garden-variety humans, too). Then, her information about each group is not only based on stereotyped behavior and belief patterns that are common among everyday humans as well as 'kin, but it's really, really, really white-light and saccharine. For example, she says that all incarnated elementals are major environmentalists, always happy (but prone to mood swings), and "physically robust". And as far as the whole Wise Ones thing goes, a lot of it plays right into the Atlantean thing--the whole "Oh, magic isn't for regular people--anyone who works magic must be at a higher vibrational level than everyone else!" thing as well as the Burning Times persecution complex. All walk-ins, on the other hand, supposedly walked in because they have some mission to fulfill. And speaking of missions, according to this book, all Earth Angels are here for the purpose of Saving the World! I don't doubt that the author ran into a lot of people who, were they in the Otherkin community, would be considered Otherkin. However, this book shows a distinct lack of skepticism and self-questioning, things that are common in the Otherkin community. Instead, it tells readers exactly what they want to hear--"You love nature, so you must be an Incarnated Elemental!" or "You love helping people and often find yourself in codependent relationships--you must be an Incarnated Angel!" While the end of each chapter on specific types of Earth Angels does have some tips on how to counteract the negative aspects of being whatever you are, it's assumed that by answering the spiffy little quiz at the beginning that you are an Earth Angel--there's nothing on questioning yourself further, only how to fulfill your God-given mission! If you think being other than human is a great way to feel special, feel free to pick this up. Otherwise, save your money.

what an idiotic book. first of all, get a magnifying glass to read the tiny print on this pint size booklet. DV claims to see clairvointly, a pole on the shoulder of her subject, claiming they are from other galaxies. i took the "test" and I am an Earth Angel, Star Person and Wise One. How I am to determine which one of these "angels" I am. I like most of Doreen's books, but this is just the stupidest one she's written. I would have given it a zero rating if it were available. Don't waste your time or money.

Doreen Virtue has certainly become a popular brand name the world over. Making a very lucrative career for herself with her user friendly home spun style of new age mysticism and spirituality. Though I find her approach overly simplistic and unsophisticated at times. Her books and oracle cards are none the less, always enjoyable, attractive and insightful in a light handed way. This is no exception. A cute handy little pocket guide for all of us 'Earth Angels', who want to know what category we fit into to. A sort of spiritual personality guide for all those 'lightworkers' who feel different or 'special' in some way, a misfit in the world. Certainly you can recognize the archetypes she describes when you look around, and the physical traits and behaviour which correlate to each particular 'Earth Angel'. But ultimately I don't think you can make any hard and fast rules about such things. I mean I'm not trying to be silly, but how would one recognize these types in the peoples of countries like China or India, where they generally have similar features, builds, hair and skin colour, and culturally learned behaviour? I'd like to ask Ms Virtue that actually. I wonder how her very Western and commercial brand of metaphysical wisdom would sit with the Aboriginies, or the tribes in Africa and other very culturally separate societies? They must have their own 'Doreen Virtues' with spirit groups and categories I guess. It's a very Western and European take on things is all I'm saying.
If I had to choose I'd say I'd be somewhere between a Incarnated Angel and a Wise One. Or I could be a Dabbler. It's hard to pick, but then again I'm also a Libran which means I'm just plain indecisive. When all is said and done however, I do believe in Angels and a Spirit world, absolutely. But athough I'm open to the possibilities of what Doreen Virtue claims to be so, I'm just not sure it's wise to take this book too seriously. It's fun, a bubble gum approach that is perhaps best chewed and not swallowed. Still, it's harmless enough I guess, though books like this tend to attract people looking for simple answers to issues that are often much more complicated. And if you bring healing, love and peace to this planet and to humanity in any shape or form, I don't think it matters much whether you're an Incarnated Angel, Elemental, Walkin, Starperson, or Wiseone. Embrace who you are and each other's differences.

This isn't one of Doreen's best, as evidenced by the quasi-apology for writing it that she puts in the Forward. The basic idea is that MOST of us are spirits in the material world, but SOME, a select special few (she never says how many), are Earth Angels: spirits who haven't reincarnated here repeatedly, but instead had their past lives on other planets, or were powerful wizards once, or special enlightened beings previously. It's written carefully so as not to poo-poo anyone's delusions of grandieur on the point, of course. For instance, there's a quiz to see if you may be an Earth Angel. If you score right, then you are. If you score wrong, you still may be, just a "dabbler" or an Earth Angel in transition. Perhaps it's all so. Who really knows? But to me, it smacks of the same preciousness that used to typify the reincarnation debate: "I have lived before." "You have?" "Yes. I was Cleopatra." "You were? What a coincidence! Because I was Marc Anthony!" ie, everybody is somebody famous from the past. And apparently, everybody with a bruised, swollen ego is an Earth Angel. So, if you feel like you never fit in anywhere, and that you've always suspected you have some deep, untapped power, well...You may be an Earth Angel! The book is chock-full of self-serving quotes of the many california moonshine swilling "special" folk who believe they're star-angel mermaids or incarnated cat spirits. If that kind of thing is what floats your boat, then buy this tiny little book. (a pamphlet's worth of material when you cut out the filler) If not, Doreen's Angel Therapy or Divine Guidance (my fave) is a better buy. |
