Arrangements Supreme,

I heard "Emily" on KLON Long Beach and got goose bumps just listening to the creative arrangement of piano and big band jazz (a la Kenton). It starts out with the very lyrical piano of Bob Florence as he goes through the beautiful key changes that just locks you in and wanting more. He then slowly brings in his great orchestra, first with the bass and rhythm and then a soft trumpet. The big band comes in and then fads and comes in again. This goes on for 12 minutes. I bought the CD just for this one piece. The rest of it's good, but Emily is something you will never forget.

I love this band,

The more I hear the Bob Florence band, the more I love it. I think this is one terrific album, and his arrangement of Emily is a total gas. All the tracks have something for one to hear over and over again. His soloists are first rate and I heartily recommend this album. I was afraid that when Stan Kenton passed away, that would be the end of 'explorations'....Bob Florence carries the torch with vigor in his own way....way to go....

fell in love with the song "Emily" after watching the movie "The Americanization of Emily"; by coincidence, just a week later, I happened to hear the version played on the radio by the Bob Florence LTD Edition- smooth and bluesy and clocking in at 12:18, it's one of the many delights on this unheralded disk. (and doesn't Florence resemble papa Bush?"
a must have
