Calvin College "An Earth-Careful Way of Life is a lament, a manifesto, and a prayer. Lionel Basney laments, in eloquent detail, what we have lost through our carelessness of the earth: our communities, our soil, even our culture itself. But the book is also a manifesto. Basney moves beyond showing what we have lost to what could be recovered, both in farms and in cities, through a delicate kind of care-fullness. Here he calls us back to our basic human task, both practical and profound: to be gardeners. And at this point, where the book is closest to anger, it is closest also to prayer. Basney sees clearly that to be fully human is to be in proper relationship with the Creatorand with the rest of Creation. Most important, this complex cry of a book is rooted (as a plant is rooted) in the soil of a particular place and experience. Christians in North America can not afford to ignore any part of this elegiac, angry, reverent book." Loren Wilkinson Regent College --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
