5.0 out of 5 stars "Earth A.D." the Classic Misfits Last Studio Album

3.0 out of 5 stars Louder and faster, but nothing special...
Earth A.D. is definately a departure from the Walk Among Us album. However, change is not always a bad thing, because Walk Among Us was nothing like Static Age, but it was still a classic. The Misfits were constantly changing their sound and Earth A.D. is a major change of pace from the classics "Astrom Zombies" and "Last Caress." This album is...

5.0 out of 5 stars "Earth A.D." the Classic Misfits Last Studio Album, October 4, 2001

"deathhead" (Tahlequah, Oklahoma United States) - See all my reviews
"Earth A.D./Die Die My Darling" is the last studio album the orginal Misfits did together. On this album the Misfits embark on a new direction of horror. Instead of catchy tunes and B-Horror lyrics, "Earth A.D." picks up the pace and rams it in your ears at a sonic speed. The lyrics portray a much more violent reality that leaves the listener numb and wanting more. Some Misfit fans found the change in style to be too much and wished it would have been more punk. I think that it was a breath of fresh air that the Misfits changed up their musical style. I agree that "Earth A.D." may not be the greates Misfit album of all time, but it is close. There are plenty of classic tracks on the album, and we begin to see Danzig's shift from the Misfits to Samhain on the album. I also give this album alot of credit as a speed metal album. I may not be as masterful as Metallica's "Master of Puppets" or as fast and furious as Slayer's "Reign in Blood", but it is raw and honest and my hat goes off to the Misfits for trying something new and succeeding in doing so. It is too bad that the orginal members split up after this album, but then again if they would not have then there may have never been a Samhain or Danzig solo career. I look back at this album as the Misfits last stand that kicked metal music up a notch or two before going out. What better way to go out than to go out in style. The Misfits did that successfuly leaving there orginal fans wanting more and more. "Earth A.D." is a must have for Misfits fans and fans of heavy metal music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Screw Limp Bizkit--This is hardcore!, June 2, 2001
By A Customer
This album is only around 20 minutes long, but it kicks ... for the whole time. Just put this baby on shuffle and repeat, and you can listen to it for hours. "Demonomania" was my favorite on the album. I wanna go crazy when I listen to this.

5.0 out of 5 stars ADD EARTH A.D. TO YOUR MISFITS COLLECTION, November 15, 1999
By A Customer
What is there to say about EARTH A.D. that as not been said before. It's the 4th in the must have set of MISFITS albums along with STATIC AGE, WALK AMONG US, EVILIVE & COLLECTION II. EARTH A.D. is the last MISFITS album with both GLENN DANZIG & JERRY ONLY in the band & it is the speed metal bible, fast & furious. Ripping & gnawing at your eardrums & even your brain itself. There are conflicting reports on this album, JERRY says GLENN wanted it fast to keep the MISFITS up with the thrash scene but GLENN says the songs should have been played slower more like his SAMHAIN efforts. Whatever the case may be EARTH A.D. kicks from start to finish. It seems to be an acquired taste though, as alot of punk fans think it's to aggressive but then hardcore fans don't think it's aggressive enough....WELL WHATEVER! If your intent is to experience the MISFITS in all there glory add EARTH A.D. to your MISFITS collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Misfits do Hardcore, January 23, 2006
The final MISFITS recordings were "Earth A.D./Wolfsblood" and the "Die, Die My Darling" EP, both included on this CD. After making their mark as a horror movie version of RAMONES doing ELVIS PRESLEY, the band adopted the "in" style of punk at the time (1982), which was playing blazingly fast hardcore punk. Although considered now a classic MISFITS album, at the time it was released many fans (and even some of the band members themselves) were put off by this slightly less melodic approach in favor of straight thrash beats, ultimately serving as a huge influence to up and coming Thrash Metal bands such as SLAYER and (guess who?) METALLICA. I listened to this album just months before METALLICA's "Garage Days Re-Revisited" EP was released in the summer of 1987, so I prefer MISFITS' version of "Green Hell" slightly over METALLICA's. At the time I heard this, I was more keen on liking this type of hardcore: fast, unrelenting and ferociously brutal, yet it retained those classic MISFITS melodies though buried under the intense barrage of guitars, bass and drums. I have grown to like their more melodic material a bit more, but nontheless, "Earth A.D." is an essential album for any true MISFITS fan or for fans of vintage, head ripping hardcore punk.

5.0 out of 5 stars WHOA! AMazing!, April 18, 2003
Okay, so for those of you who have been paying attention, I said that American Psycho was the 'Fits best album, but I was wrong...Earth AD has the best first 5 songs on any album I have ever heard. Period.

1. Earth A.D: Best Misfits song in my opinion. Just, words cannot describe how good it is. Listen to it. Lyrics, outstanding (hills have eyes)
Rating: A+

2. Queen Wasp: Kinda a return to old form, here, plenty of go's, and everything. Great song.
Rating: A-

3. Devilock: Almost as good as Earth AD, but not quite. Very fast, very energetic, great lyrics.
Rating: A+

4. Death Comes Ripping: Yet another great song, the ending is even better, another strong song.
Rating: A

5. Green Hell: Whoa, fast guitar parts although it may not sound like that, good lyrics (genie of death).
Rating: A-

6. Mommy, Can I go out and Kill Tonight: Okay, so not that good, but not bad at all, I like the slow part better than the fast part bye a ton.
Rating: B-

7. Wolfs Blood: Yet another good song, Glenn sounds quite angry in this one, too.
Rating: B+

8. Demonomania: Shortest 'Fits song (I think), but still has a verse and chorus! VERY fast...beware...
Rating: B

9. Bloodfeast: Slowest song on the album, but still not bad. Glenn is much relaxed on this song.
Rating: B

10. Hellhound: Pretty good, quite similar to Wolfs Blood (the beginning), yet another great song.
Rating: B+

11. Die, Die My Darling: Excellent song, great pounding, great lyrics, and just all out at the end. VEry good.
Rating: A-

12. We Bite: Yet another fast one, and has a great chorus, very good.
Rating: B+

Get this album, now! For it is too good not to get!

5.0 out of 5 stars the heavy metal bible, September 30, 1999
By A Customer
i know, everyone says metallica's ride the lighting or slayers reign in blood wrote the book in metal, well they lie! this is the album that started it all, and its better than anything else out today(well in mainstream land but the underground always has the best talent). think of this as a samhain album, cause it sounds like them and it was where danzig was going. i still find it hard to listen to die die my darling cause metallica raped the song and now all the little trendy poser kids are getting into the misfits. cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars I don't care what anyone says, this album rules!!!, March 1, 1999
By A Customer
I would have to say, without a doubt, that this is one of the 'fits greatest releases!!! The record is so aggressive! It's amazing!! Any true Misfits fan can't dislike this album, look at some of the songs, Mommy..., Die, Die my darling, Green Hell, and Death comes ripping, just to name a few. Earth A.D. was the first Misfits record I bought and it is still high up there on my favorites list. my only beef with the album is the sound quality, which is a little muddy. However, I would still recommend this album to anyone who wants to hear what the Misfits are supposed to sound like.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remains One of the Heaviest Albums Ever Released, September 10, 2004
More than 20 years after its release, "Earth A.D./Die, Die My Darling" still stands up against anything today - particularly all this "Yo Metal" crap - as one of the heaviest, hardest rocking albums ever released. Much like releases from early Zeppelin and Sabbath, MC5 & Iggy and the Stooges, Sex Pistols and the Damned, the impact of Earth A.D. was tremendous; it changed all the rules and blew everything else that was being released at the time, out of the freakin' water.

Released in 1983, Earth A.D. is an explosion of fury and energy. Most of the songs time in at under two minutes. Eerie distortion and feedback combined with lightening fast drumming, raging guitars, twisted lyrics, and dark, horrific themes, the Misfits final album - indeed, the band itself - defied genre.

What the Misifts did was infuse elements from punk, hardcore, and heavy metal to create a sound that would be the literal "blueprint" for what was going to happen musically over the next decade. The thrash, crossover or punk metal, speed and death metal movements - Slayer, Megadeth, Cro-Mags, D.R.I., Corrossion of Conformity, Anthrax - all can trace their roots back to the Misfits and this release. The only band even in their league at the time was Black Flag - probably the reason why Henry Rollins and Glenn Danzig were such fans of eachother's groups at the time.

Indeed, groups like Metallica are hardly shy about acknowledging the influence and impact of the Misfits on their music; and their covers of the Misfits calalog - "Green Hell," "Last Caress," and "Die, Die My Darling" - still aren't near as heavy, dark, or powerful. Hell, where would Marilyn Manson be without Glen Danzig's Misfits/Samhain horror imagery?

This is a seminal album. You should own it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Old school metalheads unsure of this "punk" album: BUY NOW!, April 11, 2004
By
J. Campbell (L.A./Orange County, CA) - See all my reviews
Here's the deal: I'm NOT punk. Raised on Zeppelin/Sabbath/ACDC etc and Old school metal- Maiden/Priest/Metallica/Megadeth/Slayer/GNR/Dio/Anthrax...
S.o.s-got married, out of scene 4 several yrs., now back. Yeah, well most the new metal "sucks" compared. I'm sure SOME decent bands are out there, just haven't come across many yet.
So I'm looking for old school music that's new to me and haven't heard before. The only punk I used to have was Pistols, Suicidal, Plasmatics, Johnny Thunders (rules!), NY Dolls, Ramones and 2 really bad Black Flag n Bad Religion LP/s. Meanwhile, Metallica covered 2 Misfits songs on Garage Inc. (incredible '98 release!-get it). Well both songs Die Die my Darling and Green Hell are on Misfits '83? release: Earth AD. So I get it, not knowing what to expect? Holy tear yer head off-rip yer limbs out killer thrash!! Get in your car, turn up vol. all the way/break off knob, drive 2-3 hrs playing this over and over! No B.S. its that good! Metallica's orig. bass Cliff Burton (R.I.P)was the one into Misfits. Every song here flat out SHREDS!-riffs/vocals/drums/all of it! Green Hell, Die my Darling rip, fine. But also Death comes ripping,Queen Wasp,Bloodfeast,Mommy can I go out and kill tonight, everything! And no un-original black/death/prog/grindcore/whatever metal released today can touch this- no way! I'd put this LP in the ring to slug it out w/most any old school metal and it would put up a serious fight with anything out there! (...)Look, listen to Metallica covers again and then do yourself a favor, GET THIS! It WILL do some DAMAGE, I promise you'll like it - ALOT! Absolutely fabulous/timeless. Hats off to Glenn Danzig. Masterpiece album. I can't imagine this band has anything else this incredible, it would be unbelievable, but treasure this one forever.
