The photography is nothing short of "Stunning." I bought this as a Christmas gift for my rock-hound wife, and was about 90% sure she would like it, it was not what she was expecting. This is now the only book displayed on our coffee table. It is in the exact center of the coffee table. I think she likes it!Earth On Fire: How Volcanoes Shape Our Planet

Earth on Fire is a remarkable celebration of a dynamic geologic process. The images offer an intimate view of the earth at its most awesome: explosive, destructive, creative. The text clearly expands on the information available within each picture. As an aerial photographer, I can appreciate the tenacity with which Edmaier pursued his subject. As a geologist, I applaud his ability to bring the world of vulcanism into crisp focus. I recommend this book to anyone interested in the earth sciences or photography.

Absolutely stunning photographs! This book is worth every cent. Beautifully designed as well, one doesn't expect less from Phaidon! The small paragraphs annotating the photographs provide an interesting insight into geography too!
