Elementary and middle-school students doing a paper or poster project on an energy-related topic will be delighted to come upon this book. It's bright and colorful, with lot's of illustrations, and a well-written narrative that cover some fairly sophisticated topics with an age-appropriate vocabulary -- all perfect to keep the interest of even the most bored young adult student.

Part of Lerner Publications' "Saving Our Living Earth Series," students will find the introductory section on "Beyond Fossil Fuels" very helpful. The following chapters are topical, devoted to: Solar Power; Wind Power; Water Power; Earth Power; and Biofuels. These chapters are then followed by a capstone discussion titled, "Into the Future."

Ron Fridell -- who earned a master's degree in radio, television and film from Northwestern University, taught English as a Second Language in Bangkok, Thailand while serving in the Peace Corp -- has dozens of books to his credit and provides nonfiction writing workshops to other writers.

Highly recommended for elementary and middle school media centers and young adult collections of public libraries.
